Lightning vs Supra
Feel a need to gloat a little...
Last night, I was driving around town and a Toyota Supra drove by going the other direction and sharply revved his engine. I pulled a quick 180 and caught up to him.
We lined up at about 35mph and we both let loose. It was dead even until I chickened out at about 80! I think I was very slightly pulling away..
I tried to get next to him (with his girlfriend btw) and ask if it was the turbo.
I have heard we had better be careful about the turbos. The car had the huge wing and the big muffler, and I think I could hear the turbo spool up during the race (kinda overshadowed by the Eaton)
I followed to the next two lane street, pulled up next just to talk, but we romped it again at 20 this time. Even though I lost a little traction during the downshift, we were even again! I let off at 70 and he turned onto a side street.
Never talked to him, but it sure was fun making a turbo import think twice...
(It was 35-40 degrees and low humidity)
Any Thoughts?

Brad,
I came across your new posting after replying to your earlier one. The Supra you saw was a Turbo, there is no comparison between the way a turbo and non turbo supra run. I own a 92 supra turbo (which was a single turbo), in 93 they introduced the sequential twin turbo and I believe production of the supra ended in 97. Here are some specs for you that I obtained from Motor Trend Magazine: 97 twin turbo supra; 320 hp @ 5600 rpm, 315 lb ft torque @4000 rpm and the quarter was 13.6 @ 106 mph. Hope this helps.

ya it had to be a turbo to keep up with you (or vice-versa if you own a supra), not that the non-turbo is a dog, it just cant run with us. I raced a non-turbo with my mustang & beat it.
Thanks for the info guys,
I really enjoyed running such a head to head race!
(Kinda tired of whooping "sport-trucks" and other unworthy cars
No I'm not!)

Thats great! I've been over at edmunds town hall. There is a "lookout Chevy, Dodge, and Ford here comes Tundra" topic there. One guy was saying how fast the lil toy supras were... he got upset when I told him that they may be able to beat my 4670lb truck by 2 tenths!
HI!... ALL - I don't own a LIGHTNING but last night I got next to a TOYOTA SUPRA (non turbo I hope). He popped the clutch and took off at every light. So at the last red light I decided to give him a whurl. The light turned green and I floored it (very little tire spin on my part) and I blew him away big time. When he caught up to me at the next light he told me that he had never run a LIGHTNING before and that mine was really fast. I kind a burst his bubble when I told him that my truck was a regular F-150. He looked really pissed off after I said that. Light turned green and I smoked him again! O WELL!!!8-) LOL.

Went out to the edmonds forum.....
It really gets me when people say 'well this car could beat you or that car could beat you' like that is supposed to make us want to trade our trucks in on whatever they are saying could beat us. Oh no, a turbo supra might be able to beat me in a 1/4 mile, I better go trade my truck in on one.
I think Ford may have stepped on some sport car toes when they had the gaul (spelling?) to build a real sport truck that could beat most of them and give many others a run for their money. Must really bug them that a 5000 pound truck can perform as well or better than their sport car.
Then of course I had to read the comment that if the Tundra had a supercharger we would lose. I say bolt one on and lets go.

Toyota has a factory blower available for their trucks/suv's. i have driven one on a V6 truck. they are good for 50-60 hp only because the trucks warranty is intact. it would not be a match for the "L", even in the V-8
I had posted to the list before about almost racing a Supra turbo, and after reading these posts, I really wished I could've raced him! That would have been fun!
Those suckers (and a lot of other rice burners) have some huge exhaust tips! Don't they lose torque that way?
**Also want to add that Toyota does have a blower available for the Tundra. It would be an interesting race in my opinion. A stock Tundra is suppossed to be faster than a stock Dodge, Chevy, or Ford! And if they have a reg. cab shortbed version, it's sure to be lighter than our trucks.
