Red face INTERCOOLER RESERVOIR

Anybody out there losing coolant from your intercooler reservoir? I have about 8600 miles now and had to replenish mine twice. Have not noticed any wet spots under the truck, so I'm not real sure where it may be going.

Any suggestions

Maybe your watter wetter is doing it's job too well. Makes that water awfully slippery you know.

It did seem to "slip" away alot quicker this time. I first noticed it when I put the water wetter in maybe 2000 miles ago.

Checked mine...okay. If you're not showing a leak there is the probability that you're intercooler is leaking that crap into the engine intake. Me thinks this warrants a close inspection. Maybe the blower jammed a Shovie into it and punctured it .

Like you I was running Red Line water wetter with distilled water. I just switch back to antifreeze this past weekend. I did not see a loss all summer long and I watched it all the time. Sure hope there is no leak to the intercooler under the intake. This was something I have worried/wondered about, sure cound take out a motor big time if it hydrolocked. (I know because I have had it happen).

Hey guys..
I just talked to a tech at ford and he told me out of the blue, to keep an eye on my intercooler reservoir! I asked him why, and he told me that there have been 5 reports this week of intercoolers leaking, of coarse causing the reservoir to empty. This can turn into a possible engine replacement. These 5 all have had around 5-9000 miles on them when they started to notice it. They have found several pinholes in the intercooler.

If you find that your losing fluid, keep track of how much and how fast it's emptying.

Thought I'd let you know of this potential problem...

PFA - You didn't mention the guy we saw at Milan Dragway last night.

He has a Black Lightning with 18,000 miles on it already, not that it matters to this story. He had a big aluminum box made with coils of piping inside. The coils were plumbed into the intercooler piping loop. He filled the box with ice and water. That's one way to supercool the intake charge. I don't know how well it worked, but he hit 104 MPH. It was a cool (COLD!) night.

Checked my coolant last night. Added about 1 quart. Don't know where it went, but it isn't on my floor. By the way, I have 12,800 miles on my RED ROCKER!!

DHFerguson-
You forgot an important part about the ice box--$500. He didn't seem to be running that great for having that addition.

FRDPLAY-
keep track of how long and how much it disappears to let your service dept. know.

Question

Hey PFA, Hould did you make out with your reservoir leak? I am now starting to notice that my coolant reserve is starting to go down. I sure hope this isn`t a internal leak, I haven`t noticed any leaks underneath.

During all the problems I had with my Lightning, one of the things the factory boys asked the dealer to look for was a loose hose clamp on the intercooler line near the back of the blower. (this was told to me, not witnessed or pointed out) Dealer was told that it was later discovered many of them were not tightened enough during assembly, and many were now leaking coolant down on to the back coil/plug assembly. One of the first things they looked for while attempting to find the engine miss.
