Help me identify the sound

Ok I'm going to need all the scooby doo's out there for this. I've got a weird noise and I only seem to hear it on warmer days. When its cool, I don't hear it. If its over 80 it comes back. It sounds almost like a couple of dimes jingling around in an old glass jar. I hear it when I get to just about 0 on the boost gauge and up. I never hear it at the lower RPMs it seems. It sounds like its more on the drivers side that anything and I can't tell if its under the dash or in the engine bay. This isn't pinging is it?

WHERE'S MY SCOOBY SNACK

If it is pinging (Detonation), what makes it weird is, on a COLD day the puter will add timing, BUT on a hot day it'll pull timing, (hence pinging only when Hot makes no sence if it's timing related ???)

Can you tell us your mods, are you running a Chip / Program ?

Cavatation is a very common noise on a Lighting that many have a hard time identifying, but that is usually heard only on idle and if you simply raise the RPM it'll go away, so I dont think thats it ???

It could be a new jar. I just thought of the old mason jars in the basement I use Sunoco 94 Ultra or Shell 93 V*power almost all the time. It's been a while now that I've been hearing it.

I seem to have developed a similar problem after installing a 4# lower pulley on my 2001 Lightning. I was getting 10# with the stock pulley so I am getting about 14# with the pulley. Its difficult to describe the noise but dimes in a glass jar seems about as good a discription as anything else. I hear the noise on warm days 90+ degrees at higher RPMs (over 2200RPM). At WOT, when I hear the noise I also feel a loss of power. I also get a sputtering when it is warm.

A few days after installing the pulley I was driving with cruise control set to about 70MPH, and as I climbed a small hill my RPMs and speed kept steady but my boost slowly climbed from vacuum to about 9# when I pulled off the road. The boost was climbing even after I got over the hill.

The next day a vacuum hose got disconnected and I lost all boost. I got this fixed and I have my boost back but it still makes the noise.

I can't tell where the noise is comming from.

The only mods I have are a k&n filter, 4# lower, and the Predator's performance pulley tune installed. I tried going back to the factory tune, and the truck ran like crap and backfired constantly.

By the description, it sounds like detonation. Get a custom dyno tune by a reputable tuner. Otherwise, you may be in the market for a new engine. If you hear that noise, DO NOT stay in the throttle, let off. You need to have this problem taken care of asap.
