Reset PCM cures rough running!
Reset PCM cures rough running!
Over the last few weeks, I have noticed that my truck has had a miss/stumble at light throttle, high load, low rpm situations. Basically, it ran like crap while cruising at 40-55mph in 4th gear, with a jerky, sputtering sound (very slight, and would get better with a little stab of the gas).
I was thinking possibly plugs, coil packs or fuel filter, but I tried unplugging the battery and resetting the computer first. Voila!!!! Truck runs like it is brand new. No more miss.
I do have a custom tuned superchip , and it has been several months since I last reset the computer. I wondered if the PCM gradually leaned out the mix or put in too much timing for cruising speeds, and this was the source of the problem.
I did some searching and found that some people have had the same problem, but it was generally problems with the EGR, IAC, coil packs or plugs. I will keep an eye on it to see if it comes back.
Just a heads up that before you do anything else, it is probably a good idea to unplug the battery and reset the PCM.
