Question 4 those that needed new motor

I was wondering if you guys let the motor warm up before pushing it hard. Since I saw these post about the piston rattle before I even got mine I always have. Many of you already know I'm sure but incase you didn't forged pistons require larger piston to wall clearances than the normal hyperpathetic (the typo IS intentional). This is because the forged material has a greater rate of expansion than a cast or hyperpathetic. If you don't let a forged piston motor warm up before pushing it hard you run the risk of 'springing' the piston skirts. Does anyone know what the piston to wall clearance is in one of these? Typicaly superchared applications run even greater clearance since they develop more heat (and increase the risk of deforming the skirts at low temps).

It's got nothing to do with that. The slap is caused by improper wrist pin location, causing the piston to "rock" in the bore twice per revolution. The truck did this since day one. My particular problem, was that it became a permanent noise

Mine only makes the noise when cold. It does seem to be noisy longer. Maybe mine might eventually stay noisy all the time like Sals. We will see what Ford says next week. Its going to blow if they have to put an new engine in. Jeff

Question

SAL,
Do you , or anyone else, know if the piston slap has been corrected for the 2000 model Lightning? Is this a problem on all 5.4L Triton motors or just the SVT?
