my truck is shutting off now mostly at idle or when coasting, but it will also under heavy throttle occasionally, and sometimes under light throttle. it is iying when i stop unless i put it in neutral and keep it above 1,000 rpms.

is has aslo stalled while driving when under a large elctrical load, like a/c on, stereo on, and rolling down both windows. when it stall i lose all electricity, the whole dash clicks off for a second.

i have a optima yellow top that is good, i just had it tested.

 

oh yeah, i have no chip. i use a predator. and the battery light is not on, and never comes on.

 

Sounds like maybe the IAC unit on the upper passenger side of the plenum. Tap on it with a wrench while idling and see if it helps, although, that would be only temporary. You can clean them but I have found on my Mustang GT it's better to go ahead and replace it and be done with it! If that what it turns out to be I can tell you where to get one at about half of what your local Ford dealer wil charge.

 

No not the IAC (no offence Ed) A bad one will cause a ruff idle, or an idle that changes, but not cause the dash to black out. He's got himself a good ole honest Electrical Problem the frigging worse prob's to have I may add. Schitt I rather change a motor than find a bad Electrical problem.

Anyway
When you say the Batt was tested, whats that mean ???
Was it tested under a load ?
Exactly how many volts are showing on idle with nothing on
And then how many volts are showing under a full load, ie; A/C, Lights, Heat..
Only then can you eliminate the Batt and Alt
(any Auto Zone can help you out if you dont have a Load Tester)

Then from there you need to check the Computer Harness Connection, and any and all other connections, there are many.

 

You can also check the harness to computer connection. Sounds like you are loosing power to your computer momentarily.

OOps! I only read the fist paragraph about the "idle" issue! My bad! :o

 

well, i fixed the problem on the second try, lol.

on the way home from work friday i stopped by the auto parts store on my way home, and he tested my battery and alternator, nothing wrong there, so i knew it was definately a wiring problem. i pulled the fender liner and noticed my battery cables were rubbing on the header, and the insulation on the small orange wire had melted off. i patched it back up, rerouted the wires, put it all back together, and the problem was still there. so on saturday, i removed the whole battery cable assmebly from the truck, and i cleaned every connection. the ground that goes from the frame to the motor was a little gunked up, and the connections on the lower stud of the solenoid on the firewall were corroded. i cleaned all those up put the cable assembly back on, and she's running great again. and i didn't cost me a dime, woohoo!

 

Glad you got it fixed man. Grounding is your friend...unless it's a Hot lead
