Thumbs up AAD hood installed

I don't know how this got posted twice, sorry about the bandwidth.

I got my AAD hood installed yesterday (finally!) and words fail me, you'll just have to see for yourself (that's the Blackbird on the other side of the truck). I think the Black Beast looks great........

hey Chuck that looks cool!! man there is nothing like haveing an aftermarket hood on your vehicle to really make it stand out. My 91 stang had an aftermarket hood & man talk about an attention getter! Everyone knows there is something going on when you see a fast vehicle with a hood. Now all you need to do is add clear corner lenses to the beast. Hey, is it possible for a "ram air" to be added to it, or are the slots permanently sealed?

Spiro, thanks for the nice comment!

Yoda,

It has the cutouts available, but are currently blocked. There is a ram-air kit that can be ordered from Autobahn to go with the hood. I don't remember the price, I was in shock at the price of the hood.

As to clear corner lenses, I haven't decided if I like them well enough to spend a bunch of money on them, they are rather pricey. I kind of like the yellow corners, in low light they can really mark your position so you don't get "I'm sorry! I didn't see you!"

Currently, my dollars are being diverted to my T-Bird. I am purchasing and installing a Mark VIII 32v 4.6L DOHC motor in it. This is not a cheap proposition, but gives me as good or better performance as supercharging the current engine, with the benifit of further improvemets in the future, like a supercharger for instance 8-)!

Talking

Wyldman,
Your hood looks fantastic, I'm sure it is turning heads everywhere you go. I am putting the "L" in storage for the winter. I might be able to sneak that AAD hood on and she will be none the wiser (yea, right) anyhow keep up the good work. Keep us informed on the Bassani exhaust mods as they happen.
Talk at ya later
Jim

Great hood, it really sets off the aggressive look of the L. Where did you find an AAD distributor? I've had no luck in finding AAD on a net search. By the way, the Mark VII engine should really wake up that Bird. The best of both worlds.

Wyldman could you give us the complete cost
on the hood, painting and installation. I'm going to start saving for my Red Freakin Beast.

Thanks,
Terry

Cool

Well Wyldman ya got it on there. Looks good. In my opinion the bug deflector takes away from the overall look, but thats just my opinion.

For all of you looking for the hood check http://www.americanautodesigns.com/ The price for the hood as advertised on the web page is $595.00. Shipping cost is approximately $95.00 per hood, but all of this is on the site.

Fit and finish were excellent. When they got through with it all of gaps were the same width all the way down the hood, It doesn't stick up above the fenders like the Cervini's have been reported for.

The only problem we had was some of the wire tie downs on the underside were a bit stubborn.

Thanks for your nice comments!

This company in Florida that you mention is the one I talked with back in April. He said that there could be a discount if more than one was ordered. If anyone in the Detroit area would be interested in the early year let me know.

Hey Wyldman,
Gotta give ya a thumbs up on that one. That looks tuff, sharp, mean etc... Question? What does something like that run $$$, and how does the paint match. I had a red Z28 that had a fender re-painted and I could see the diff. at night in a lighted parking lot. My Lightning is also red. Would like a hood like that but i'm more concerned about the paint match???

The hood was $599 from Autobahn, from AAD it's about $799. Guess where I got mine.

Paint match wasn't a problem, the hood comes nicely primered and ready to go. My body guy had only to do a bit of blocking and the prep was finished.

He is a very talented painter and when he got through, the only complaint I had was that the paint on the hood looked better than the rest of the truck. He said he tried to mess it up the way Ford would have, but just couldn't do it. Paint job was $225/panel for 1.5 panels. A little pricey, I admit, but this guys work is worth it.

So, after this book, I can boil it down and say it cost about $1000.00, give or take a few.

FRDPLAY,
If your body guy can't match the paint with the paint code on the truck and a good eye for color, you need another body guy. I admit that red is a bit of a pain to match, but a good body shop should have the materials to match it properly.

Mumbly,
I agree that the bug guard doesn't do much for the look, but that is fresh paint and I wanted it protected until I could get Invinci-shield out here to fix it up. The more I look at that stuff, the more I wish they made a whole body kit.
