Red face Been humbled by a JAG lately?

I came across a 98-99 Jag XJR tonight. I noticed the LARGE tires on this car and just went a couple cars past him and held there. The guy was dressed in a suit, and I figured he probably wouldn't run. He then came up on me pretty quick, after traffic cleared in went in front of me. I went ahead and pulled up on him, then he backed off to about 60... and then hit it! Let me tell ya, that car can fly! He caught me out of a good rpm range and pulled pretty good. We did it again, this time at about 70-75 mph and I shifted down to second, taking off at about 5000 rpms he still pulled away, but not quite as bad. I know the car has the 4.0SC 370 HP motor, but I didn't think it would pull quite that good (he does have alot less resistance in the wind). I had to give him a big thumbs up for the runs (we ran to about 120-125 mph). NICE CAR-My wife now has her sights set on one of those!

My neighbor and his wife test drove a new XJR last week. They both loved it and are seriously considering it.

OK guys you had better have deep pockets!!! the standard jag without the sc goes 4 around $80,000. I think seeing some reports earlier this year that the new sc version would run around $110,000 - $120,000 (if not more). Like i said, was thumbing through a mag when I came across a report on this new jag, & remember thinking "damn I'll never afford that" cuz it was so much $$$$. My advice, if you can afford that why not just buy another "L" for your wife then add on $50,000 worth of aftermarket stuff, figure your wife will probably hit 10's or 9's at the strip & still drive it on the streets! Then you can have it all.

A jag was listed in the popular mechanics "Acceleration Nation" article. And it beat the lightning in the quarter.

For $100,000 it should beat ANY car.

FYI,

The 2000 Jaguar XJR Sedan with supercharged 370 hp 4.0L V8 has an MSRP of "just" $67,250. This is the model referenced by PFA and is also the one my neighbor is interested in.

The XK8 convertable with the same supercharged motor runs around $80K. (The non-sc XK8 coupe lists for $66,200.)

Cool

HI!... PFA : Don't feel so bad it took a FORD to beat a FORD. Remember that FORD owns JAGUAR. At least it was'nt a CHEVY that got you. 8-) 8-)

I don't feel bad about it just a little suprised. Although I am glad that it was from the Ford family and not Brand X. The price would make us strech a bit, but it would be nice to own! I'm only 28 and saving ALOT towards retirement so we don't have to work forever!

Hey PFA:
28 years old, driving a 99 Lightning, a 98 Continental AND saving money!
Man you got it right!!!!
BTW, my stable is the same, wife's ride is a Black 98 Continental.
Just drove it to Chicago and back, and noticed that the Lightning is much more comfortable on trips, at least for the driver. I had to stop every two hours to stretch, and on my trip to TX with the Bolt, drove 14.5 hours with only 3 stops and felt like a million when I pulled into the garage at the end. Also noticed I got 20.1 on the Lincoln and 16.5 on the Lightning which was a shock.

Hey Bill-
My wife has seen a best of 27 mpg on the Lincoln (long trips). We've never taken a long trip in the Lightning, but she does admit that the driver is much more comfortable than the passenger in the Lightning.

As far as what I have AND saving, I learned early on what that D@#! plastic can do to you. A little discipline can take you a long way.

Cool

Wow - $20,000 just to chop the top on an XJR! I think I'd buy the sedan and add a black Ducati for those open-air moments.

BTW, I parked my black Lightning next to a new black XJR sedan at the neighborhood dry cleaner yesterday. Pretty nice lookin' combo! I like those chrome exhaust tips on the Jag. Now all I need to do is pick up a Saturday night special and a ski mask and run down to the S&L to make my "withdrawal".
