Humbled by a Mustang!
A stock 99 Lightning and a stock 99 Mustang GT, would be a heads up race and the winner would just be the better driver. I would say the the 99 gt and Lightning would win against the 99 Cobra without the fix. It would be heads up with a 99 Cobra with the fix. A 96-98 GT is damn lucky to run a 14.5. A 96-98 Cobra runs anywhere from 13.0 to 13.9 depending on the drivers ability to launch the car.
Hope this helps--Mad`

Hey guys let's not forget what the '99 and '00 Cobra's have IRS. Not exactly the best rear end design for the drag strip but wonderful on the road. Give me a new Cobra (fixed or not) and a road course and a bunch of Mustang GTs, Camaros and Firebirds and we will see who crosses the finish line first. Let me spend a little money at Kenny Brown's and it could get ugly!
Straight line performance is only one measure of a cars performance. Let's not forget that. SVT hasn't.

Very good point Mark. I am grateful that SVT did think so much about the suspension and handling. I had to use all the truck had and all of the experience (I won't say "skill") I had to survive the trip home last night.
I had two idiots racing down the street (2 lane blacktop road, no easement) that borders my subdivision. Unfortunatly, I was going the wrong way, head on and no where to go, and no time to go there. My only option was to hit the ditch and get out of the way.
Again, fortunatly, I wasn't going very fast (35 mph) and was able to avoid both of them and hurting my truck. As they passed, one of them (the guy in the lead) freaked out and slammed on his brakes. It immediatly went sideways and clipped the other car. Both of them wound up in the ditch, one on each side of the road.
I re-swallowed my heart, drove the truck out of the ditch and managed to park it in the driveway before getting a serious case of the shakes. If either of them had hit me, it would have killed us both, as they were running well into 3 figure speeds.
I checked out the truck a few minutes ago, and am happy to report that it is well. A little dirty, got some mud and grass in the undercarriage, but nothing broken.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the brown stain out of the driver's seat?
P.S. This happened not 100 ft from my house. I was so angry the sherrif's deputy had to threaten me with jail and physically restrain me when I found out they were both ok. I calmed down, gave a statement and smiled when the deputy cuffed 'em both and took 'em away to the land of locks and bars.
P.P.S. They were both driving late model Mustangs. I figure they just wadded up and threw away close to 50k. The idiots survived, the cars did not.
Sorry about the book, but I had to get this one off my chest.

Hey Chuckker, Glad you are OK.
Flip side to your story, I was the bad guy.
Picture 1956, I am driving my Dad's '55 Buick Century and my best buddy is driving his Dad's '51 Packard with the big straight eight that I believe put out 180 hp vs the Buick's 236. His was 3sp+OD with a steep rear axle ratio, my dad's had the Dynaflush.
We take off on a side street, stay dead even and come to a slight hill with a RR crossing at the crown. Cannot see over the hill. I am 16, he 17 and know no fear. Neither backs off and we did a Bullit over the tracks.
Of course, someone is coming the other way and we split off the road. Both recovered ok, speed was only 55-60 or so and we just got the cars a little dirty. However, the shorts were really dirty.
Never, never did that again or even close
I understand your anger.

It's so nice to be greeted by such a nasty message as I come on today. MAD i guess it makes you feel macho by i.d. ing "posers" such as myself... My 97 nor my 95 will most likely never run low 12's such as you car does (and i take your word for it due to the quality of some of your other posts)but I need not lie to impress people I most likely will never even see. If you were not so ignorant mabe you could have asked what was done to the car, as i said "i've spent 1,800 dollars" on it. Everything is relative. Whatever floats your boat cheif.
