Alternative Intercooler Fluid Cooling

Wonder if it actually cools the liquid? Would be easy to install ice and keep the water cold.

huh, is that like what the WRX STI has?

I test drove one and there was a button that read something like I/C spray or I/C water.

The I/C for the WRX is Air/Air. Watermisting will have a much better effect for that system than our Water/Air.

It's a cool idea (no pun intended) but you won't be racing at a sanctioned track anywhere. Water and track doesn't mix very well.

Spraying down the radiator right after a pass is an age old trick for southern boys. Up here in the north I've *never* seen anybody do it.

(yes it's a effective way to transfer heat)

Hi.

The process this is utilizing is called the "Latent Heat of Evaporation".

Explained here:

http://daphne.palomar.edu/jthorngren/latent.htm

This will work no matter what intercooler/aftercooler/radiator or other heat exchanger is being used.

The actual temp of the water in the reservoir is not very important - the change from liquid to vapour will absorb approx 600 calories per gram of water atually evaporated. That's quite a bit, actually.

The misting maximizes the surface area of the water as it comes into contract with the surface to be cooled ( in your case, the inter/aftercooler).

Also works at the beach - see all those chicks with their little spray bottles? I know, I know...what spray bottles?

Ain't physics fun? Class dismissed.

Cheers
Grog

If it's too much, I already have the info to build my own.
