Thumbs up PSP Track Test results, and something NOT to do...

Hey guys, Sal here. I spent some time at the track today testing the Power Surge chip and filter combo for the 99 Lightning. Weather wasn't real good (temp 65, Hum-90%-yuck!, baro-30.28)but I definately needed to spend some time there. The truck baselined at 13.87@99mph stock. This was with 26" Nitto Extreme Drags to help eliminate wheelspin. With the PSP chip and filter kit, ETs dropped down to the 13.3-13.5 range, with a best ET of the day going 13.35@102.5mph. I only wish the humidity was lower, the truck would have gone 13.1s if it were under 50% hum. Anyway, just thought I'd pass along the test info; I know alot of you guys have been waiting to see how my products perform

And here's something NOT to do..
When doing my burnouts to heat the Nittos, I usually leave it in drive, and it shifts up through the gears into 3rd. You really don't want to pull your burnout into 3rd, because it can bog the truck down before the tires get hot enough. So I tried doing my burnout in 2nd, which is very common and suggested way to do it. So I did that, and it was a great burnout. Then I put the shifter back into drive, staged, and launched like I always do. So what happend? The computer kept the truck in 2nd, and it launched in 2nd, and stayed there. Oops. I ran a 16.21 So I'll be doing my burnout in drive from now on!! As a side note, on that 2nd gear pass, the truck ran like described by the guys who had the mysterious "no boost" problem during a run. For those of you who had that, any chance you did a burnout in 2nd before that run? Just an idea...

Cool

Sal, when mine did it(no boost) I (as every time) had done my tire heating in drive. It shifted in to second each time during the burnout, but launched in first every time. By the way, mine did a 16.2 with no boost also.

Spiro99SVT.....In your first sentence you state that your new to this forum...In your second one you talk about wasting your money on a chip by Superchips, yet your running 13.5+ quarters. Well, both Superchips and Sal's PSP are both represented here on this forum and you will not find any penny anta quarling between after market suppliers here. It may prove to be rather informative to you to read some of the post here before you make comments like " I must be one of the lucky ones that havent had any problems with the superchip."

There are many of us running the Superchip for the new Lightning here that have had no problems. Where problems occured they were taken care of by Superchips. The same holds true for Sal's chip. Sal's chip may have been a little later to market than Superchips thus there are probably more of the Superchips represented on this Forum. Both have proved to do excellent jobs for us Lightning owners. Sal also has his filter kit available that is proving to be a hot item ( I have one on order myself).

Also you guys please remember Sal does his PSP work after he works a regular workday. Please do what the rest of us have done and go to his site, print out the order form and order thru the mail. As of his last post reguarding this he is still not set up for charge orders, so for now Snail Mail is the only choice. Everyone has had good results with his being prompt at turn around time. Sal has posted this many times before, so I don't think he will care if I say it again. Sal please correct me if any of this last paragraph is incorrect...later......

Wink

Yes Tybee, your statements are correct It is much easier if people just print the order out and send it in. I should be set up for credit cards shorty, and you will be able to order over the net on a secure server. Also, I have no problems talking to people on the phone, but it's much easier and faster if you contact me via E-mail. My E-mail addy is PowerSurgePerf@aol.com for those who need it.

Hey Sal,
When I had lost my boost, I did a burnout in drive, OD off. I ended in a 15.6 run. I haven't been able to duplicate it since.
