First Quarter Mile Times
I borrowed a GTECHPRO from a friend of mine this evening and got my first quarter mile times. My truck is completely stock. Having never really tried this before, I think I did pretty good. My best quarter time was 14.45 which is not terribly impressive, but what is impressive is my trap speed. 102 m.p.h. I think I'm having some wheelspin trouble, but not bad for my first time. Tell me what you think guys. How are you launching your trucks to get a better e.t.?
What do you guys think of the filter kit and chip from Power Surge? Are they worth the money? I've heard great things about the filter kit, but what about the chip?
Thanks in advance!

Based on my little experience I would say either improve your launching skills or get traction bars or something to help you launch better before you try to add more power, as that may make it even harder for you to get your skills down.
Just my opinion . . .

A chip and the air filter kit are not optional mods, they are a "must". also your gtech gives higher trap speeds than a track will, because the gtech measures your speed at the very last foot of the 1/4, whereas the track averages speed thru the trap.

with street tires and a stock truck my best results were leaving at 1000RPM the tires should chirp and leave. At the dragstrip with slicks I leave from idle and when the last light goes yellow I nail it to the floor. My 60'times of 1.70's are the best I have got so far leaving like this.

Mr Superchips distributor-->
Why are you not able to improve anything on the 96- 98 Cobras with a superchip, with out a simultaneous dyno run? Even after that, the results are almost Nil on a n/a Cobra.
Just curious--- Mad`

Mad,
I had a '97 Cobra and asked the same sort of question on the Corral.net website. Apparently, Ford wasn't as "cautious" with the Cobra program as they were with the Lightning. Of course, the Cobra isn't supercharged (greater risk of detonation I would imagine), so they didn't pull out all the goodies they did on the Lightnings.
I know that guys with supercharged Cobras are getting excellent results with custom dyno tuned chips. Some of them making a difference of up to 50 hp with just the tuned chip. A generic chip won't give those results, but that is not bad for just changing your programming.
I'm not the distributor, but hope that helps.

I was hoping for a response from Mr. Troyer but he seems to be silent, wonder why? There are lots of folks with Cobras out there that would like to discuss this same phenomenon with Mr. Troyer and others with Superchips, but they are silent. I wish all you guys with Lightnings and Superchips installed, all the luck in the world. Luckily, I don't have a "Stupidchip" installed in my Cobra, and I never will.

Hey Mad,Sal here from Power Surge. I'm not a fan of Superchips and I obviously have "business differences" with them, but I hate to see a guy get a bum rap for no reason. Mike seems to post here about once a week, so just be patient and he'll reply when he reads your post.

Sal, I have heard alot of good things about your chips on this forum. Update me a little on them. Did you get your information from dyno time, drag strip time, or both? Also, what hardware and software are you using? You may not want to answer that last question and I understand if you don't. Anyway, you have a fine product and keep up the good work. Looks like you are a pioneer on the new Lightnings and I'm sure everyone here appreciates your help. Thanks, Mad`

Hey Mad, Sal here. I have no problem answering that last question
. I use Chipmaster/Autologic software, developed by Mike Wesley, and used by the country's top tuners such as Dynotech Racing, Johnson Motorsports, UPR, Powertrain Dynamics, etc. I spend time on the dyno, as well as the track. (I'm actually heading to the track after I sign off) I use Ford diagnosic tools, and a wide band air fuel meter for my testing, to ensure that customers will be getting maximum results, while keeping their vehilces safe from any kind of damage that can come from an improperly tuned chip. I also do alot of drivability tuning, which is why many people prefer my chips for everyday "street/strip" use over other brands. Check out the Customer Feedback portion of my website, for more info on what people have to say. If you have any specific questions about my chips, tuning, or any other Lightning related stuff, please feel free to ask
