Overfilled transmission

I check my trans fluid level today and noticed it was overfilled, should I drain some out or will it run out the overflow? Thanks!

Drain it out IMO. Is there a overflow?

There is an overflow, alright.

One time after hot lapping an autocross course for about a half hour (!), I had tranny fluid puking everywhere.

Ford service guy who was there said just keep kicking its *** and the tranny would decide the appropriate fluid level for me.

I put too much fluid in.

When subjected to intense conditions, our transmissions like to be slightly underfilled. When I filled the transmission with fluid, I was unaware of this.

Same thing with the rear end. Expect it to puke fluid if you drive it hard. I installed a pint catch can/breather on the end of the hose.

SVT did its best to deliver a performance vehicle that could handle aggressive driving (for longer than 1320 feet). But much of the stuff that they started with just was not designed for it. So there are limitations that you have to learn to work around.

An overfilled trans will aerate the fluid and overheat it. This can kill a transmission.

For Rob, I hope you change that fluid out rather than risk damage. I know you dont have many miles on the truck and perhaps that is saving you thus far.

Ah ha. I think we know why you can't lay down any numbers from your new setup.

The tranny fluid has turned to peanut butter and is now the only thing keeping the fragged internals together.

So should I leave it in and wait for it overflow, or should I drain it?

You have a Moroso pan with a drain plug. Why not drain it?

That applies to engines because the crank whips and aerates the oil. I don't believe a tranny cares, except that the fluid expands due to heat and then goes out the overflow.
