BMW has an M Day, howabout SVT day at Bondurant in 2000
Yes, I know Lightnings come with a 20% discount at Bondurant's in Phoenix. I think Ford should seriously consider an SVT day for Lightnings, Cobras, and Contours next year (not during the summer!) at the Bondurant facility. The chance to talk teckie, learn, and drive in some fantastic areas (We have one highway (666) that has 126 miles of curves, seriously, as many motorcyclists will attest).
Any takers???

That would be great!!! I read that one dealership in the california area rented a track for one day, and let all the SVT (moslty cobra owners) play for the day ay the track. It looked like a lot of fun

I think this would be great and I'm all for it.
In addition, it would also be great if "we" (meaning, probably, the NLOC) could talk Ford into helping us sponsor the track and maybe even hire some first class instructors. To make it financially feasable (and also of sufficient interest to Ford) we would need to schedule the track event in conjunction with a national Lightning owners' gathering which would need to attract at least 250-300 Lightning's (both the older and newer versions). Not all Lightning's would compete, of course, but we would need the political strength of their combined number to interest Ford and to help subsidise the event.
A few years ago I attended an event just like this. It was one of the SHO Registry national conventions. With Ford's considerable help, we rented the Atlanta Motor Speedway for a full Saturday and hired a dozen of Skip Barber's instructors (including his top dog, Terry Earwood). They put on a driving school (classroom and track) for us. Spent time on both the banked oval and the long and short autocross courses. Ford also had its chief test driver on hand for demo laps.
And, since it was a national SHO convention, we also had a car show, an awards banquet, toured the SHO factory in Atlanta, had activites for the family, etc. A 4-day event in total. It was fantastic!
The SHO Registry does something like this every year as, of course, do other marques including Mustang, Corvette, BMW, etc.. I sold my '91 Syclone when I bought my Lightning so I didn't attend, but the ISTA (International Syclone & Typhoon Assoc.) put on a similar event in Kansas City this summer and there probably aren't any more of those around than there are Lightning's.
Anyway, it's a good thought. Would, of course, require tons of work by several volunteers (plus some luck) to make it happen and I know most of us (including me) probably don't have the time to spare, but I think it is something worthy of further thought.
