dynoed truck with poor results please help
hi i went to the dyno with my 01 L and had very bad results .my mods are magnum blower,4# lower, accufab t/b,c&l elbow, cai, shorty headers, bassani exh, ftvb. the truck with out chip made 300 rwhp then added chip the most he could get out of it is 372 rwhp 423 tq with 16* timing something kept pulling the timing out.the tuner is a very good tuner that deff knows what hes doing the a/f was good but didnt make any power he kept messing with the timing and still nothing .it makes 16# of boost and held it fine on the dyno even during shifts. the weird part is it made 300rwhp with out chip but it feels strong as hell on the street without tune .so i am very stummped a 4700# truck making 300rwhp wouldnt move as good as it does my opinion but i havent driven another L .please help

remember there are different fuel tables.
Mine were screwed up and Sal (PSP) straightened it out.
If the engine is not at normal operating temperature, it will use a different table.
However, it could be ANYTHING@

What chip are you running and who tuned it? How was the chip pulled and reinstalled? Negative terminal removed? What are you running for fuel? Last fuel filter change? Air filter clean? Tires slipping on the dyno? Tire pressure equal in the rear? There are a bunch of possibilities that can cause unusual readings. But the bottom line is they are still just numbers. Run it at the track. That will tell you more.

A few things that jump right out
300 HP with those mods and no chip IS WAY LOW to begin with
Gaining 72 HP by adding the Chip IS HUGE
(BUT #'s are still low, AND STARTED OUT LOW)
What type of Dyno ??? was it a Mustang Dyno ?
How was the Dyno done, in 3rd, OD off, over 65MPH BEFORE he goes WOT
BTW they got out of it too soon
Tuning a Mag is tricky with Timing, IS THE TUNER A MAGNUM TUNER ???
Opinions / things to try
GO TO A LIGHTNING TUNER TO BE DYNO'D
MAKE SURE HE KNOWS HOW TO TUNE MAG's
Know what type of Dyno is being used
Lean the AF up, you'll pick up power
(if you notice, your power drops off just as the AF drops off) and it's too rich.
Add Boost, (a Mag want's to be spun and LOVES boost)
Boost is where the TQ comes from
FORGET ABOUT IT
You aint going from 300 to 440 by adding a chip
BTW, are you saying you had 300 witout a chip but with the Mag ?
AND YOU WERE OK WITH THAT ??? (then as said, DEF SOMETHING WRONG)
With a 4lb on a Mag you are correct in thinking you should have 400 or better.
I pulled 440+ HP and @580 TQ using a 8lb pulley, SAE #'s.
but it's the starting point here thats all wacky, and if the tuner is so good,
why didnt he try LOCKING the timing at 16 to see what happened ???
I have programs with LOCKED timing, and without LOCKED timing
A tuner knows how to stop the puter from pulling timing
And a Tuner knows WHY it's pulling timing
Oh ya, our knock sensor IS NOT hooked up
BOTTOM LINE, YOU NEED A NEW TUNER
A LIGHTNING TUNER, AND ONE THAT KNOWS MAG'S
You'll be fine Bro, but you got an issue to begin with if it was only 300HP.
THATS WHERE YOUR PROBLEM IS
BTW, Have you ever had it to the track ???
SHORT ANSWER
Your AF is Way off and it's killing you
And it looks like your plugs are showing spark blow out, OR A MISS
WHATS THE GAP ? and BTW I cooked 1 plug on the Dyno, and my #'s went from 440 HP 580 TQ, straight to 3 something 4 something with "1" bad plug

i know its not the tuner he just did a few L's and they made more power than mine did without magy. the fuel filter has probably 200 miles on it.it was on a dynojet .the a/f was fine 11.5.it was done in 3rd with convertor locked.the chip being used was a diablo 3 way chip used with a laptop .the tr6 plugs are gapped at .32.air filter was clean .93 octane was used i brought 109 to do a track tune but never put it in .
what would cause spark blowout.and if my truck had a misfire would it run funny or if a coil was bad it would run funny or have (cel) the truck runs mint from what i can see.im hoping to get it in to ford to do a leak down test

fuel tables
your fuel tables are off big time. Look at that a/f curve. Your max a/f might be 11.5 but in the upper mid range it bottoms out to 10ish.
How are they dynoing the truck? With an 01 i think you bring it up to about 68mph give or take and then let it rip.

11.5 a/f is not bad!!!You might ant to lean it out just a tad to 11.8....But thats not your problem.Your plugs are not looking to good.I would change all the plugs and start from scratch. Do you have a predator? You can data log and see exactly how your timing is in each rpm..You can see if it is pulling the timing at WOT.Just a thought.

also
looks like they abort the run around 4700 rpm which is fine as far as looking for power but since your truck shifts anywhere from 5200-5400 on average, you definetely wanna see what that a/f is up there. You a/f was on a steady climb and when they run out of fuel and maf readings, it's ususally right around where you left off.

We're just trying to help, and I'm sorry if it sound like I doubted the tuner, but if he doesnt know why it's pulling timing, or how to stop that, that worrys me. Belive me if there's one thing I PERSONALLY LEARNED after 25 + Dyno's on my Mag, it's slight changes make huge differences. Having the timing in the wrong spot for instance, "or" too much timing can have a 20-30 HP diff right there, been there done that
Same with the AF, little diff's can net HUGE changes.
Example
On the first Dyno I had on my Mag using the old "stock fuel pumps", I put down 475/596 BUT the pumps were running out of umph and Sal was throwing all the fuel the injectors could flow at it, and it was still too lean.
To Date THAT DYNO still remains the highest numbers my Mag has ever put down. Unfortunately the final numbers (after the new Hi Vol Pumps were installed) were never that high again, amof they're A LOT lower, about 35 HP lower to be exact. Reason --> we refuse to go that lean <--, but rumor has it some tuners will tune a mag slightly Lean for this reason, HUGE INCREASES IN POWER ARE TO BE HAD by leaning out a Mag slightly, YOURS IS THE OPPOSITE, and power can drop off opposite just the same.
Timing, THE SAME THING
I personally tried 16,17,18,19,and 20 one night, one right after the next.
The Diff of HP from the lower timing to the higher timining WAS HUGE,
I think it may have been as HUGE as a 30HP diff, was def every bit of 20+
I found lots of Mag owners down in the 12-14 degress range, you may pick up power at that level too if what we're seeing is detonation.
And when you say timing, are we talking total timing, whats the timing at WOT high RPM, thats what counts.
Lastly plugs
YES YES and YES
You can have a bad plug and the truck WILL run perfect, under most situations. Been there done that MANY TIMES (believe me, hehehehe)
Depending if it's just a slightly melted tip, or possible crack in the Porc, it'll run fine around town and even low RPM blast. It's when you get up into the RPM at WOT and up in the Boost that the spark will jump all over, and kind of look like yours on a Dyno sheet. As said I lost over 100/100 with bad plug on the dyno. I drove to Sals the truck was running awesome, we made a pull, and WAM 3 something / 4 something, I was like
WTF ????
Sal shut the truck off, got his tools and started working, I was like whats up Sal, he said BAD PLUG. We swap them out and WAM 440/570 was back.
I might have had 2 bad plugs that night, usually 1 plug will equal @30-40 HP lose if I remember correctly ...
Your other issue of course is boost, the mag loves boost and you will gain globs of TQ by adding some.
Simply change your plugs and try again, just make sure your tuner understands slight diff = huge changes on a Mag
