Question Floor Jack & Lightning Height

Whats up guys, Im having an issue trying to purchase a garage jack for my Lightning. I would like to start doing some work on my own, but I need to purchase a few items. Could anyone tell me what type of jack and what height will possibly do the job? Also could you post what type of jack and stands you use? I am looking into an Olympian or Craftsman 3 Ton floor jack. The Craftsman I believe has a height of 5 1/4 to slide under, and 19 inchs would be the maximum height. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You might try www.Harborfreight.com they sell some nice, large floor jacks for commercial use at rediculous (good) prices. they also sell nearly any tool you can ask for for all kinds of applications.

Question

I went to the web site for www.harborfreight.com but was not able to make much progress. Every time I tried to click or search I got an error message. Is there any other information you can give me?

Thanks,

I use a Sears (Craftsman?) 2 ton floor jack and generic jack stands on my Lightning. Just did a tire rotation this week. Picked it up on the frame rail just behind the transmission rear support crossmember and it balanced nicely (both wheels came off the floor at the same time). I think the weight was pushing the capacity of the jack though as it seemed to strain.

Hey Blue!

Just checked Harbor Frieght's site and it's working right now. I checked and they have about 12 different jacks available from 2 ton up to 20 ton. They have one on sale for 70.00 that I am considering for my own garage. You might try checking it out again.

You might also check out Sam's Club or Costco. I was in Sam's today and saw a nice looking 3 & 1/2 ton floor jack for around $59. (Pretty sure it was real metal and not plastic or cardboard or anything. )

By the way, when you remove a wheel, what value do you torque the lug nuts to when you remount it?

Thanks,

Question

I have a few more questions. Can I grab a decent oil pan at a few of these places too?

Thanks,

Thumbs up

Hi All,
Well I purchased some of my tools. I bought 2 Pairs of Sears 3 ton jack stands. I also purchased the 3 Ton Sears floor jack which was actually pretty thick compared to some of the competition. The quality was excellent on the jack. I also purchased a craftsman 3 drawer tool box, and ordered up a set of Metrinch to try out. I hope the Metrinch set is everything I've heard! I should also mention I cleaned *Black Beauty* today and added the second coat of Zaino. Still not as impressed as I would like to be but I'm sure after the 3-5th coat I will be. It just keeps getting better. thanks for the help guys with all my questions. Im gonna drive from here in Enfield CT to Boston Mass tommorow in the truck because of my girl friends birthday. She wants to see the New England Aquarium, and go on the whale watch. should be fun I will bring the video camera.

Take care,
Metallic Blue
