Hey everyone , Im from the Dallas Fort Worth area and i have always always loved the lightnings they looked badass and were fast to boot. But anyways right now i have a 5.3 silverado 1500 reg cab short bed.....i know...i know....hold the applause... j/k im not a troll, anyways it isnt the slowest of all but it isnt a lightning. In 3 weeks after i get my next pay check i will have saved up 19,000 dollars over the past three years of working to buy one. i mow lawns. , Anyways long story short theres a guy in my neighborhood that put up his 03 red one for sale about two months ago when i saw it for sale i pulled over and knocked on his door at 12 in the morning because i wanted to know about well being the good guy he is he let me look around in it and around and stuff and i asked him if he would hold it for me and he was reluctant at first, but, as the week went on no one really inquired about it so when i was driving by later that week he waved me down and told me that its a deal, so in 3 weeks i will have the car of my dream. Hopefully will be a regular. Also what year did they start having 380 HP in them and before then what were their hp and torque output? I hope i didnt bore yall too much , One last question what cars would i not be able to beat thats on the street almost every day....my friend has an 00 z28 and id love to spank his *** the only mods he has are LT's and lid? also what about the 99-04 gt's and cobras thanks for your help guys and any advice is appreciated.

The 380Hp@4750 rpm and 450ftlbs@3250 rpm was released in late 2000 and early 2001.

The 1999-2000 was 360Hp@4750 RPM and 440Ftlbs@3000 RPM.

The 1993-1995 was 240Hp@4200 rpm and 340Ftlbs@3200 rpm(no supercharger)

Not too sure if you can beat the Z28 but you can probably hang on to him.

Theres a whole lot of cars you will want to and be able to beat with this truck Unfortunetly I raced my buddy in his '00 z28 from a roll, doing about 30 and he beat me three times. I would pull him for like 3-5 seconds, which is probably how long it took him to drop a gear, then it was all him. Didn't lose by much maybe 1-2 car lengths but nonetheless i lost. From a stop, i think its a different story though. Haven't raced him but i think i can get him.
BTW, you wont be able to hang with the 03 or 04 cobras, not unless your heavily modded. Good luck with your purchase and get that Credit Card ready!!

If you can afford to modify the truck, I seriously recommend these upgrades.

1. Accufab throttle body(1696cfm)
2. Trueflow inlet pipe
3. Crank pulley(6-8lbs pulley)
4. New Idler pulley
5. New Plugs
6. Reprogrammer
7. Cold Air Intake and exhaust system.

I've done these upgrades for about $1000.00 - $1500.00 and produced around 125-140 Hp gain to the rear tires. The last one was a 2002 Ford F-150 Lightning pulling 420 Hp and a 2002 Harley Davidson that pulled 405 Hp the rear.

The above link will tell you all the differnce between the years.

If you are going to add mods:
1. Factory Tech Valve body
2. some type of traction bar
3. 4# lower pulley
4. Ported Supercharger
5. Dyno tune.

That should put you in the 12's.

a cat back adds ZERO HP, only a nice tone.
A Cold Air intake is mostly for looks, as the stock one can be modified to work better than most aftermarket ones (unti you reach a certain HP)

You don't need a ported SC to get into the 12s

yeah i guess the texas heat plays a role huh its 12 and its like 101 and humid. Anyways back on topic i know about the exhaust and intake i got true dual flowmaster 40s and k&n 77 series intake as well as a custom tuned pcm. But thats beside the point. Yeah the guy is selling it for 18k he had at 20 but i talked him down 2 grand. I wanted to save up 19 just for the extra k in mod money. Then hopefully ill be able to smoke his z28 and the gt's that are around here their everywhere . Anyways thanks for the help on the mods, now tell me what cars can i school I look forward to giving good input on this board and being a part of the greatest truck in the world.

ahh these guys know WAY more that i do, but i look at it like this. anything that can run a 14-15 sec 1/4 is prolly considered a "sporty car" 14 seconds is fast ( compaired to like a standard sedan ) but no where near the mid to high 12's you can get your truck to pull for 1000 bucks or so in goodies. i havent had the chance to race one yet myself but ive asked a few guys on here and was told with the normal mods ( pulley, tune, port, intake ect. ) you should be able to beat a newer C-5 vette off the line to bout 100 mph or so, but i wouldnt try it from more than a 30 mph roll. and make SURE its not a C-6 though he'll just put a damper on your day.
