Flat tire today.. Discount tire question ..

I was on the way to work today when I suddenly hear a rattle coming from my back tire.. At first I thought I had a blowout but after I pull over the tire was ok but i heard the sound of air leaking out my tire.. I looked along the tread and found a piece of metal that sticking out of the tire... I figured it couldn't be plugged or pactched.. I took it to a moms/pop tire place near my job and they told me it couldn't be fixed either..when the quy took my tire off he found a dinner knife jammed inside tire against the rim. My question is that I purchased the road hazard insurance from Discount tires when I ordered them (Nitto NT555 DR).. Do you think they will replace this tire under this? I still have knife just in case to show them.. The guy told me this insurance covers the life of the tire but i'm not sure of the stipulations on that..

Thanks

They will give you the amount the tire is worth depending on how much tread is left. I went through this earlier with a blowout, and they have to give you a discount depending on how much tread is left on the tire, basically how much the tire is worth if the tire is damaged in any way. I got one new tire and the other has a large nick in the sidewall that I am also getting replaced, both with the road hazard deal.

Basically on a 200 dollar tire, if you have half the tread left, then you have to pay 100 dollars for a brand new tire with the program. 75% tread, you only pay $50 and so on.

Do they take into consideration that if the tire has a blowout, flat etc. that while flat the sidewall incurs damage? Or do they look at damage and wear to the tread side?

All they measure is the level of the tread when they did mine.

The road hazard comes free at discount Tire and it pro-rated like FLBigDog said, but if you bought the free replacement (should have been about $30-$40 per tire) they will replace your tire for free. Almost anything goes on this, your running over a butter knife is exactly the kind of thing this was meant for. IMO on a 555R it's questionable whether or not the extra free replacement warranty is worth it because they only last 7-10K but I highly recommend them on any other tires. One tire replacement in every couple sets of tires and it pays for itself.

Ok thanks for chiming in SILVER2000.. Yes I paid for the extra free replacement..It was 40 bucks per tire so it makes me feel a lot better that it will be replaced for free. i've only put about 3K miles on them with only 2 burnouts... Discount tire has the best constomer service and prices on tires.. I've called and asked some of the dumbest questions and they never made me feel like some moron.. Anyways thanks again
