Thieves Hit 99.5
Guess I might be the first one here to have this happen. Hope you guys don't have to ever deal with it....anyway......
Last Friday stopped at Longhorne's Steak for lunch....was only going to be there for a quick lunch because were were leaving for Daytona Beach and a few days of R&R.....I had parked the Lightning five feet from the front door and was there at the lunch rush (12:30).
The hostess came up to me and asked if my truck had a broken window...my reply of course was ...No....I had just sat down and was in the truck five minutes ago......well...boy was I wrong....some A**HOLE had broken the passenger side glass and stolen my satchel. It was covered with a towel and several sets of house plans, of course that didn't help. Inside the satchel were all my check books, mail, bills to be paid and keys to the C5 among other things that can not be replaced.
Had to have the window replaced and even after vacuuming the damn thing out several times my pasengers are still getting glass in their butts! Needless to say our trip to Daytona was canceled...along with all my checking accounts....credit cards ect...cost to replace all the locks and ignition ect on the C5 about $500....along with countless hours on the phone and trying to get copies of paper work ect......
Lesson to be learned.....you can bet your butt #1....Never leave anything in the truck
that can't be replaced and #2 Think I'll take a trip to the window tinters here in Savannah next week.....yep...I was a dumb ***....but it won't happen to this Cracker again!!!!!....later.....Tybee

We go hunting, we find 'em, and we waste 'em. NOBODY messes with a Lightning and gets away with it!
Too old and too hurt for up close and personal, but can still see out to 1000 meters.

That really sucks, Tybee. You might want to be a little extra vigilant at home for awhile in case this low life has visions of your C5 in his driveway.
Hope the glass people got all the broken glass out of the door. Happened to me once and the new window scraped on glass shards every time I raised or lowered it.
The tint should help, hopefully.
It gave me a start to read this because my wife and I had lunch at a local Longhorn's today. I also parked the Lightning up close. The scumbag who ripped you off was probably sitting in his vehicle there in the lot, just waiting and watching.
And, I hear you Chuck. Guess I'd be in the same catagory. Of course, seems a shame to waste a good .223 round when you could get the satisfaction of seeing his surprised look at the sound of your Benchmade folder snaping open.

Ok, I'll see your puny little .308 and raise you a 5 lb. cannon ball!
My neighbor (who drives a supercharged Hummer) owns two 130 year old firearms I would love to have: A gen-u-wine Gattling Gun (unfortunatelly, not shootable) and a "small" cannon that shoots a 5 lb. ball. The little cannon works great and he has two dozen more of them in excellent condition at his mother's place up in Maine. His grandfather used to take out competing lobster boats with them 75 years ago. Worth a small fortune, of course, but he won't sell 'em.

Thanks Guys......I would probably be typing this from a laptop in jail if I had caught the guy......Just hoping this black cloud over my head moves away in the near future....had a 63 C2 roadster catch fire, had a drunk back into the C5 and now my Lightning being violated.....all in the past two months...they say bad things come in threes, so lets hope this is it.
Kelly.....I only have the stock alarm, but have a nephew that says I sould get a Viper or a Clifford....any of you guys...or gals know anything about these. Has anyone else added an alarm?....later.....Tybee

Hey Tybee,
Sorry to hear of your misfortune
I got the Ford VSS 400 alarm with mine from the dealer, $395. After 1 minute of clicking open the doors the starter is deactivated, has a siren, and a shock sensor that is adjustable. Never had any problems yet, except during thunderstorms it seems to set of the shock sensor.
Good Luck...

Hey Tybee, Sal here. There are many good alarms out there. Most of them have provisions for "add on" goodies to enhance them. Sometimes a shock sensor will not go off or will only set off a warning mode (only does a few chirps instead of setting the siren off) when a window is broken. But there is a cool add on you can get. It's called an "interior dome sensor". What it does is it monitors the area inside the cab and if any movement is detected it will set the alarm off. It works extremely well, and if you left your windows open and someone stuck their hand in the truck, it would go off. Pretty neat, huh? Many convertable owners get them. I personally use an Automate brand alarm (similar to the Viper). Go to you local alarm store and ask questions. Hope this helps!!

Sal and others......had a Viper system installed today and am pretty impressed. Also has the auto start feature. Will check in on the "interior dome sensor" also....
