Whith the JLP setup can you buy the regular kit, and then add on the ram-air parts later on? Or are they two entirely different units? The top box connects into the fender, and the ram-air tube connects from the bottom of the box. Is this how it works? Does anyone have better close-up pics of the JLP cai?

Yeah I imagine you could buy the ram air portion seperately. I just removed mine it was collecting so much ***** in the airbox it wasn't funny, loads of dirt leaves and stuff, it really didn't seem good for the truck. And I don't have time to check the air box everyday, so I just dropped the bottom ram air portion and left it open, running great and a lot less debris.

If you do a "search on here you'll not only find dozens of photos from the usual vendors and comments as to their fit, form, and function - you'll find dozens of photos and artices from what others have done on their own to accomplish the same "function" as the vendors - and at a fraction of the cost. And most of them look just as neat as the purchased products and perform as well or better.

Ive always wondered about the CAI that has the intake scoop under the front bumper. If you have one of those installed, what do you do when it rains?

I wonder if you could put some kind of screen over the bottom piece, that would stop the big stuff from getting in. Also if you could somehow put one of those pre-filter filter covers over the hose coming into the air box, that would stop a lot of the dirt and big stuff also. I'm just thinking of ways to stop the bad stuff from getting in, and let the fresh air in.

Just place a piece of window screen between the hose and the scoop and you're set, that's what I did and no debris in the airbox.
