Metallic Blue,

If you're 21 and have 3 speeding tickets, that doesn't sound like a bad rate to me. In NC you get a discount when you turn (I believe) 23. Then another one at 27 or such...

I'm paying ~$900/year for my Lightning through AAA, about $75/year more than my '97 Lariat, for FULL coverage. I told my agent the whole story on the truck so they wouldn't come back at some point and say I mislead them. It took a couple days for the VIN to register with the home office in Dearborn, but I got my certificate.

BTW - I pay more than that for PL/PD (minimum coverage) on my son's '92 VW Jetta. His being 17 may be a factor.

Life is a learning experience. Why can I not remember that?

Talked to my State Farm agent today and this is what he told me.

1. I register all my "personal" vehicles to my HobbyTown USA store. That is "commercial" use and carries a higher premium than household use. Companies have deeper pockets than ordinary folk.
2. Son in law #2, who works for us and who drives the Ranger, had a DUI a few years back that he neglected to tell me about. It is assumed he might at some point also drive the Lightning. Not.
3. State Farm in general hates any and all high performance vehicles from cars to trucks to motorcycles.

OK says I.
1. I have my home, my business, my car and trucks insured by you as well as Workmens Comp.
2. I have shilled both daughters and their husbands insurance to you. 3 other vehicles and two homes.
3. I also shilled my brother to you. One car and renters insurance.
4. I either want an extended family discount or a commission on all this business to pay my own insurance bill or I will move the whole lot to another insurer.

Hee,hee. We are in intense negotiations to reduce our insurance bill by a lot.

Thanks for bringing this up BBQMAN, as you may have saved me a few yards long.
That is another reason I love this group.

hey bill murray,
i know in Pa. you can have a form signed that says that your son-in-law will not drive your lightning and it helps out with the costs (step son was going to be included on bill for old lightning, NOT)...also went to local hobby store for r/c truck and the guy went thru all the new stuff Tamiya has (or so he said) and could not find the set up you have...the nearest was one from a company called nitro and it appeared to be a f150 looking like a dragster....could you be so kind as to send me some info on the setup you offer....e-mail is sdeanc0810@hotmail.com
thanks for the help

State Farm charges me around $850 annually for my '99 Lightning, and that includes coverage for my A.R.E. hard lid and BedRug liner. That's about $65/yr more than they were charging me for my '91 GMC Syclone - which, of course, is also a hi-po truck. State Farm knows it's a Lightning - my agent finally found the VIN code at the very bottom of a long list of F150 model types - but at least here in Orlando they consider the Lightning as just an expensive F-150 for insurance purposes. This is just for the Orlando/Central Florida area and includes $100 Deductible collision, Bodily
injury liability limits of $100,000/$300,000, No-fault, Medical payments of
$5,000, Comprehensive, Emergency road service, Car rental and travel
expenses, and Uninsured motorist.

Of course, my wife and I no longer have any children living at home, so that
helps. Also, I insure 3 other vehicles through them, not to mention my
house, an umbrella liability policy and other odds and ends.

Mike

Just received my renewal on my insurance. Lightning is now down to 277.00/6months, just 12.00 more than my '98 f150 supercab-v6.

If you can believe this....I am only paying $850.00/year (Canadian$!) on my Lightning. On my 98 Z28 I was paying close to 2700$/year with no tickets or claims.....man this is a savings enough to justify buying the truck, not to mention every other aspect!!!!

Yesterday I got my insurance bill for this year. The speeding ticket I got the week before my Lightning came cost me an additional $400/year, for 2 years! Ouch!!!

Mine is about $380-400 every 6 months with USAA. $250/$500 deductibles in Atlanta. USAA bases it on the VIN...they know what I've got my hands on!!

I hope you guys with the low rates as XLs don't take it in the shorts if you have a big claim.
