Jeff - Great times!!! Congratulations!! That is an awesome truck! It must be fun wailing on Cobras!!
It is surprising that it took a "chip", however, to equal the times turned in by Popular Mechanics on a "stock" Lightning.

No way!!! Have you seen the size of that guy?!!! Maybe if you put Angelle Seeling behind the wheel you'd have a better chance of running mid-13s!!!! :-)

Bob, I launched the Lightning at 1000 to 1200 rpm's and the track held that without any wheel spin. I did not remove the spare or anything else. I had between 1/4 and 1/2 of 93 octane fuel. Rt 66 is open Tues,Weds,Fri,Sat and Sun. Here is their website address..good luck. Jeff http://rt66raceway.com/home.html

back in the sixties don nicholnison took a new 428 mustang from 14.20 to 13.10 with minor tuning and learning how to launch it.maybe he needs to test a new lighting and see how he could do with it.

What nights is Route 66 open? I've been wanting to get to the track with my truck before I have to run it against my little brothers SS396 Camaro next month. Also please tell me how you launched your truck to get such impressive times. Did you remove your spare, trailer hitch, tonneau etc? Anything else you can tell me to help a novice on the dragstrip would help.

Last I heard Don Nicholson was running a design shop somewhere in the west (I know it's a big west) but can't remember where. I will try to run down a couple of my dad's racing buddies and see if he is still around.
My dad was Tom Shelton out of El Paso, Tx. He used to drive and wrench for Mack Massey Motors there (after working for Mountain Bell all day). His car was a (now very rare) '69 AMX called "Uncle Sam" Anyone who ever read Hot Rod Magazine between '67 and '71 almost certainly saw the car, it even made the cover when he won at Pheonix in the WinterNationals (1970 I think).
He used to hang around with guys like Ed Pink, Don Nicholson, Don Garlitts, Grumpy Jenkins, Snake Prudhome, etc.
He always claimed he won that race because Ed Pink sat on his fender before the run and "charmed" the motor into about 50 extra horses.
Sorry to bore you with ancient history, but the comment about Dyno Don got me wondering myself.
