Off the line and Down the Road: Only Lightning Victorys
I dont believe that the lightning will have any defeats, so I didnt put VICTORYS AND DEFEATS. If any lightning owner has a defeat, go post it over in COmputer Chips.

Gotta love ya man.
So far haven't even been messed with seriously. On the other hand, I have only encountered Mustangs and Camaros and have no idea how hot they were. Do have a lot of fun messing with the heads of Ford/Chevy/Dodge pickup drivers who have loud pipes, lowered suspension and the like on 20-80 mph goes on the parkways here. For them, there is no hope.

I appreciate what ya said Bill.
And Dunbarton, the Lightning would have trouble with a Buick? Or are you talking about a stock/modified F-150?
Just checking...

MRBBQMAN,
You are correct ...... just don't want some of the guys to get "****y" when a 1987 black Buick Regal with raised hood louver pulls up alongside them. It can be very deflating to the ego.....and there are quite a few of them out there running nicely.
fast46triton, looks like these Buick GNs were before your time but I can assure you this is the only stock street car that SCARED me and I had my share of 13 second flat street machines. AND, they are a V-6......
And speaking of deflating your ego, you may have to change your signature when you tangle with a '99 Silverado with the 5.3 liter engine. I was very careful not to include ALL Chevys in my signature and when I tangle with a '99 5.3 Silverado Z-71 I will change my signature too.......

I apologise having done this to a "brother" but he had a attitude that needed some adjustment.
I followed this guy in a Mustang that was running slow and then accellerating hard every now and then. Finally a light caught him.
We were sitting in the front row , I'm on the right. I could see his big exhaust tips as I pulled up next to him and I kept on listening to hear if he had a Powerdyne or a Vortec. So, as the light went green I flipped the throttle to about 1/2 and got a nice chirp. He was surprised and went to WOT, and as he went past I could hear no wine, just another '97/98 GT Mustang. I let him get around a car length ahead, then I floored it and BLEW past.

Believe it or not, those suckers can haul!
Not a real contest, but more, lot more hassle than a lot Camaros and Mustangs.
I disremember who has the Dodge SC V-10, but I understand your respect for Mopars. This guy had me by maybe two carlengths before I could get my thumb uninserted and get with the program.

Question for Mike T:
Buick GNX, if I recall, and I cannot find my file of clippings on cars I would eventually like to own, was based on a 231 cu. in. iron block pushrod V-6 with a Turbo.
Off the showroom floor, they turned very low 13's, very high 12's without the chip or other engine management technology of today.
What did they do differently from FMC in their treatment of the Lightning? They had a dumb engine, really, a dumber transmission and they hauled.
Parallel question:
In the Popular Mechanics top 13 article, it mentions the Lightning having 8.0 lb of boost and the Jaguar just below it as having 11.6 lb of boost. Ford has owned Jaguar long enough to have the same warranty worries (much worse really) as they have with our Lightnings.
Without really putting your neck on the line, and with your deep knowledge of our engines, particularly the blower prepared 5.4 litre, what is your best guess as to a streetable boost pressure that we could aim for that would give the same anticipated engine life as, say, the Jaguar XJR?

This is a good question (the why not the what
). I know the Nastruck has special wheels, exhaust and the 4.6, but I think it makes only a little more(5-10 hp) than the regular 4.6.
My question is this, our engines has lower compression, so if running (with the SC) at an indicated 0 pressure, that would mean the intake is at atmospheric pressure. This would also be the best/full power for a normally aspirated engine. Now, under this condition, what power will our engines be making ?
I am thinking that it should be close to the normally aspirated 5.4, because of pressure drop across the throttle body etc.

what is a f-150 Nastruck, and why did he want to race my lightning? anyway i was able to keep a length ahead of him without going into positive boost, which is probably what he wanted to see, since his looked like some sort of performance truck, he had to know what was under my hood.
I had a good race today. A '87 Mustang with a '97 4.6 and 5-speed, as well as Flowmasters.
He left on me both times, but I managed to run him down after 60 km/h. We agreed to back off at 120-130 km/h. By then I was ahead by around 2 car lengths. Good fun

Dunbarton, are you comparing the new Z71 5.3 to the 4.6 only when you mentioned "deflating" your ego? What about the 99 5.4 vs. the 99 Chevy 5.3? I have not had any problems with them yet. My boss has one and he cant keep up with me 0 - 100.
Thanks
