Thumbs up

I went to Milan Dragway (Michigan) last night. First time I had ever run a 1/4 mile. There were 3 other '99 Lightnings there (no F150-On-Line members). One had a brand new Superchip. Another had replaced the standard 3.55 gears with a 3.73 ratio.

I was the slowest, averaging 14.3 @ 97 MPH. It took me awhile to get the hang of cleaning (spinning) the tires, staging and launching to the lights. I cannot seem to get much wheelspin, which may be good. I show <9 PSI boost on the gauge.

Both the modified trucks were consistantly under 13.9 and just over 100 MPH. The Superchipped truck is owned by a mason who hauls a mixer and puts concrete block in the bed without a liner. Ouch! 10,000 miles in just over 2 months. He had trouble with wheelspin off the line. When we ran head to head, he hooked up about 60' down the track and was 5-8 lengths ahead and gaining at the finish line.

The 3.73 guy wished for 4.10 gears. He also said he had spoken with K&N who assured him they were working on a Lightning air filter which should be available soon. He had already called Summit and placed an order.

On a good run I beat a '99 Cobra. This is great!

DH
A guy there last night with a red Lightning works with me at the plant. He ran a best of 14.15, and this being his first time to a track. Unfortunatly he does not own a computer yet, but I have told him about our great sight and the Superchip.
The Mason you mentioned I've seen there before. I believe he was from Howell. Anyway he ran a best of 14.00 the night I saw him, with only 4,000 miles on the od., he pulled on me the entire length of the track, to my best of 14.32. I had also told him about our sight here, but he too said he didn't have a computer but had a friend he could access with.
If I get my truck back by friday night I'll be down there again for fridays test and tune.

SVT54SC,

I think those numbers are pretty good considering the high temperatures and high humidity in our area (I live in Deer Park). I also believe that as you get more miles on your truck, the performance will increase. After my truck turned 6000 miles old, it really loosened up. I now get better mpg's and it feels quicker. Anyhow, I hope to see you at the track someday. Best of luck with the Lightning.

Well guys, got my Lightning back and headed to the track with a new trans. Best I ran was a 14.426 @ 96.57mph. It was between 70-75 degrees out when I ran that. I guess I'm going to have to get the superchip sooner (than later). I wish these trucks were for consistant with each other, rather than the various performance figures everyone has.

I met a guy down there that works for Dana (I believe) and they've been experimenting with different pulleys on the sc. He said it definately helps. Also the exhaust, including our special headers are a large restriction. He did say that the pulley will come off, opposite of what SVT told me (of course).
Later for now..

Hey PFA, Sal here. Concerning the Eaton blower pulley, when SVT said you can't take it off, it's not so much that you can't remove it, it's more that attempting to remove the blower pulley usually results in blower snout damage. The Eaton used on our trucks is serviced as an assembly only, so that could end up being an expensive mistake. I am currently working with a few pulley companies to see if we can have a blower crank underdrive pulley made. That's a better way to go anyhow, because you won't run into belt slip problems like you do when going to a smaller blower pulley. I'll keep everyone posted on how that turns out.
