how much can high temps really affect performance?
We were racing this past weekend at nopi nationals in st. louis at the gateway and it was HOT!!...Saturday the track was about 115 and sunday the track was almost 140 degrees F. we also raced friday night with the temps being in the mid to high 80's. My brother was running 14.1 or 14.2 all weekend...(very consistent) We were dissapointed by not seeing the 13's like we'd hope to see. I was just curious if the heat had somthing to do with this? His truck is a bone stock 2000 L with f 1's. This was also the very first time he had it to the track. But i had previously clocked him in the 13's with my gtech performance meter...i was just hoping to get some opinions on this...we will run it again sometime real soon in cooler temps and see what he can run then.....id appreciate the advice! thanks
Heat is a major factor in killing HP in our L's...Bad air (dew pt and temp) can make these blown motors less efficient... Not too mention that if intake temps get too high then timing is also pulled...
Thanks guys, i figured that had a major affect on his times...his 0-60 was 5.9 and his 1/8 was low 9's and the 1/4 was either 14.1 or 14.2 every time...and the 99-00 have 20 less hp and 10 less torque than the 01-04 too right? how much slower are the 99-00 than the 01-04 in most cases? Also, if he is running those times in that extreme weather what should we expect to run in normal (say like 70 degree) weather?
thanks again
thanks again
Heat Sucks
Just like the Captain said, I've run as much as 4 to 5 tenths slower when it's hot compared to cool, ideal conditions. That's why I run a Powercooler, which is good for about a tenth or more. I can't wait for some cool Fall air.
