Question Lightning dyno Results

On Thursday, I am getting my Lightning dynoed here in Atlanta. This will be the base line "test" before any modifications.

Hopefully, I can get my Superchip installed on Friday and get the first round dyno test on Friday or Monday.

My question, or request really, is for any and all owners who have had their 99'5 Lightnings dyno tested to report the results on this thread. Stock, modified, brand new or broken in, doesn't matter.

My interest stems from so many comments from Mike and others about different results obtained from anything from G-Tech meters, real dyno testing, timed 1/4 mile runs and so on with reference to the possible fact that our trucks may have the same wide, and probably not acceptable, performance footprints as the Cobras seem to have.

I'm not mad at anybody (FMC) and I am certainly not trying to cause problems but I think if we do have this situation, it should be forwarded up the line to Ford, SVT themselves and so on so that we may all be assured that our rare and EXPENSIVE vehicles are delivering what we paid for.

You folks have always been extremely helpful, and I think this is a good one to follow up on.

Bill,
I've got about 35 Passes on my truck now. My local track is about 300 above sea level. Most of my passes are 14.00's -14 teens at 98.20 - 98.60's mph. My 60 ft's range from 2.13 to 2.19 on a good traction pass. Best ET so far is 13.898 at 99.42 mph. The truck really likes to be cooled down before making a pass. They should have a fan on the intercooler radiator.
I ordered a chip, I should get it in the next few days, and should be able to get some "after" numbers this weekend.
I have seen two other lightnings running at the same track and both were running in the 14teens @ 98 mph.

Hope this helps

I have to do this quick, we have dinner guests, and Pat is giving me hell for stayind on the computer.

Dyno test results today at very high temp and humidity:

Stock: 304.7 HP
Stock: 410.1 ft lb torque

Superchipped with 0 learning time:

Mode 2: 328.9 HP
Mode 2: 433.8 ft lb torque

Not bad, not bad and I can't really complain to Ford yet. Beats the estimated 288 HP we should expect on a dyno with 20% friction loss.

Hey Bill,

Glad to hear your dyno results! I am supposed to receive my Superchip today, unfortunately, the weather here in Memphis is as bad as Atlanta (98 deg. and 90% humid.) Oh well, I was looking back over my dyno pulls from when Hypertech used my truck as a test bed and gave me a free chip. My baseline and chip pulls are below:

Stock hp - 317.0
Stock torque - 385.6

Chip hp - 320.2
Chip torque - 398.1

As you can see from these figures, everybody's truck is really different from the factory and that the Hypertech chip didn't help very much. That is why I ordered a Superchip on Tuesday, even though the Hyp. chip was free for letting them use my truck. I am looking forward to installing the Superchip tonite.

I'll let you know the results maybe next week if I can. I have a dyno around the corner at a buddy's shop. If the weather will cool off some I plan to go to the track next week for some drag strip runs. As in earlier posts, my best with Hyp. chip is 13.92 @ 98.59 mph. I hope to get around 13.50 when the weather cools off.

See ya,

Collin

So Bill your dyno runs are actual HP and not corrected. Also do you know where the dyno operator hooked his tach clip? Thanks Jeff

As I look back on my notes, dyno guy did say that hp and torque were corrected to whatever the SAE standard is. I believe that to be sea level, around 70 degrees and I don't know the humidity.

This sounds about right to me as my numbers are reasonably consistent with the higher range of other postings, magazine articles and so on.

This would work out to about 410-412 bhp at the flywheel with the chip in position #2.
It may be that the motor is capable of more, and I am going to try to do a 70 degree pull as soon as this damn heat wave breaks.

At the risk of sounding silly, I am not sure I want too much more power. As the chip gets "broken in", the truck is almost getting to be a handful. Tire spin in 1st is pretty much at will, even from a rolling start.
The shift to second on WOT comes after the tach has gone off the scale or around 6200 as near as I can tell When it comes, it is extremely positive, may I say. Even with the way SVT specced the tranny, I am actually afraid I might break it. Serious patches of rubber left in second gear with 12 inch wide tires kind of scares me.
But what a nice scared it is.

Bill,
Are you still smelling the "burnt rubber" odor that you noted when you first purchased your Lightning? Man, you have one helluva truck there. Your posts are making me want to go out and buy one!!! I keep reasoning to myself that I want to keep my '97 4x4 for off-roading and towing in the winter. But the thought of 400hp (and God knows how much more if anyone is brave enough to chip it to 12-14 lbs of boost!) is just too tempting. I assume you're quite satisfied now. See you're from the Atlanta area. I'm staying around the northern Perimeter (I285 / 400) area for the next week - down from the Motor City on business.

Bill..

I think that the corrected temp will be 60 degrees. I could be wrong.

Bill or others,

What is the factory "redline" rpm on the Lightnings?

Also, there is a topic in "Computer Chips" under "factory warranty with superchip" and an SSM issued by Ford. It is becoming quite disturbing to me reading this SSM by Ford. I think you should all read this, regardless of what Ford truck you are driving. We need some answers on this.
