Moroso Trans Pan.. leaking?

Saturday I was @ my parents house and when I pulled out of the driveway my mom noticed a spot in the driveway... it turned out it wasn't from my truck, but I've been paranoid ever since.
Anyway, it was a little wet around the pan but I figured that's from when it was installed. I cleaned it up... no big deal. Now I haven't driven my truck in a day or so and today there is some fluid on the side of the pan, but I can't for the life of me tell where it is coming from. It was at the corner of the bottom of the pan, but it didn't look like it dripped down from the top. I can't for the life of me tell where it's coming from. It's not an excessive amount dripping out... It's not dripping down onto the ground or anything, but I would imagine this isn't normal.

I have a MAC pan that has leaked ever since I had my latest tranny installed. I've since taken it off and replaced the gasket and retorqued all the bolts and it still leaks so it might not be the pan but it sure does look like it. It leaks about a 6" diameter spot on the driveway about every 2-3 days. I kept an eye on it for a while and at that rate it took about 3 months to leak a quart. Since the system holds 19 quarts it's nothing serious to worry about, just annoying. I've just given up on mine until I can get the other transmission issues worked out.

LeeAnn,

I've had the same issue with this pan. After detecting the same type of leak that you describe, and going through lots of re-installing, re-torquing the bolts, checking the gasket, etc., etc., I sent it back to the vendor - who returned it to Moroso for testing. After hanging on to it for a month, Moroso returned it to the vendor, saying that the pan was fine... Even after losing the entire contents of the pan during the course of no less than a week and a half (on more than one occasion), "there's nothing wrong with it". Right. I am trying every day to contact Moroso about this issue, but have received a neverending stream of "he's out of the office" and recordings asking me to call back. Kinda expensive to do from Germany, I might add....

Hopefully you will have better luck with this than I am. Meantime, I guess that the receptionist at Moroso will become quite accustomed to hearing my voice.

Please, let me know if you find out anything or get a resolution to this...

Thanks,

Steve

Wow. I've had the same EXACT issue. I just assumed it was operator error; and that I had not torqued the nuts correctly. I've noticed quite a buildup of sludge on the wiring harness on the driver's side of the tranny. I'll call Moroso as well to add to some more input.

Wow, interesting... and here I thought I'd be riding solo on this one.
I guess this is what I get for spending almost $200 on a transmission pan. If that's the case, and it is just going to continue to leak, then I don't even want the POS on my truck. I am not going to keep crawling under my truck worrying if it is leaking or not.

i noticed a little on the edge of mine and on a few of the studs but it sat in my garage for nine months with the motor out and never leaked a drip. i was thinking of tightening the bolts but its still not dripping.

Me too!!!! I have my leaky one in a box ready to go back to Moroso. My replacement is not leaking, so far. Fingers and toes crossed. Mine was leaking through a pinhole in the weld puddle.....My advice is to thread lock the studs and use the OEM gasket. I guess these pans may be pretty crappy in quality.

Well, just emailed Moroso concerning this issue - if I get a response, I will be more than happy to post the results...

For those others of you that are having the same issue, I will be more than happy to include references to your problems if you would send me your email addy or name so I can forward it to Moroso. Perhaps if they see that this is not an isolated incident, they will be more apt to do something about it.

If you over-torque the nuts you will have leaks - trust me I am speaking from experience.

Just speaking for myself here - I tried over-torquing, under-torquing, and torquing to spec. No change. The d@mn pan still leaked. I figured that it would leak if the nuts were too tight, but they actually leaked LESS - but still leaked - when installed that way.

My TCI aluminum pan leaked as well. I found a hairline crack in the casting. I sent it back to Jegs and they replaced it. I still have it in the box, haven't had time to install it.

This is just an educated guess on my part, but I've never used the supplied nuts/lockwashers. Anything with a lockwasher is very hard to get torqued right and temperature fluctuations can make it a little squirrelly. try using th stock pan bolts and see if it helps.

just a thought,

G

I used mine with the supplied studs and nuts, been on there for about 1.5 years now, no leaks.
