Question Lightning WOT upshifts....

Sorry to butt in on the Lightning section (I have a '99 SC shortbed with a 5.4/4-spd and a Vortech supercharger) but I am trying to get a Superchip programmed for better WOT shift firmness so that the trans will live a longer life with the supercharger. My questions are these: How firm are the stock lightning upshifts?? do they bark the tires? What RPM do they shift at?? Thanks for your time

the lightnings shifts like a linebacker hitting marino (soft&easy). don't know about the warrenty situation, but a transgo kit is wonderful on a centrifugal setup and you can set it a firm as you want, but if ford frowns on it, a removable chip might be the best way to go.

The supercharger made a big difference. Very pleased. I have not had it to the track, but a friend with the same truck except for a '97 model year went 14.9 @ 92 MPH with stock exhaust and the Vortech. The '99's should run better due to the improved cylinder heads and intake manifold. I will post results as soon as I get to the track.

DId that Vortech supercharger make a big difference? What are your track times? Get a superchip to firm up your shifts.

99,

Get a superchip! It will do alot to improve acceleration and mileage on your truck! It firms up shifts, changes shift points, removes top speed limiter. Say, now you are running 14.4-14.5 @ 95 mph. With a superchip, you'll be running 14.0 to 14.1 @ 97-100mph! It also adds 28hp and 46lb-ft torque!

Well, in his situation it's going to be a bit different, as he needs a custom program for his Vortech supercharger (Vortech's supercharger kit for the Mustang Cobra uses a Superchip!), so the numbers for the stock normally aspirated engine using the Superchip won't apply in custom situations like his. Sometimes the power gains are larger, and sometimes they are smaller. At any rate, it will take care of doing whatever he wants to have done to his shift characteristics, etc.
