truck problems, spitting and spuddering

in this summer heat :santa: once my truck gets up to operating temp i cant get into the boost half the time. i cant even get up to 5# without the truck spuddering and acting like it wants to back fire. the very end of my exhuast tips are the blackest they have ever been. im running a built engine from JLP, stage 2 cams and ported heads. stock eaton with an 8# lower and bassani high flow mid pipes and catback. i have a mail order tune from JLP but it definetly needs some adjustment and i was curious what else besides my tune would do this. i have heard of high flow cats getting clogged but never heard the symptoms from a clogged high flow cat. i also am going to be pulling my plugs out this weekend to check them out to see if any of them needs to be replaced. the truck has been doing this for about a week now. ive re-uploaded the custom tune to make sure it was in the truck. if i didnt have the built engine and custom paint job i would of taken the truck to a dealer and traded the damn thing in. the past two months i have had no luck with the truck. got hit two months ago and got the whole truck repainted a custom color. my alternator died last month and then the battery died with it so i had to replace those. yesterday i was driving on some road construction and it cut my front tire and made it go flat and had to buy a new tire.... and on top of that stuff my truck has been acting up and eating up some gas.

If I remember right, the same type of thing happened to me when my coil packs went bad. I think I would get an engine light about half of the time. But it sounds like the coil packs to me

Did you get the built motor in the winter time and you are noticing this now because of the hotter weather or ...? If you take it out just after it warms up does it do it or only after it's had time to get hot? Is this from a stab or does it do it if you ease into boost? Have you done the obvious like changed plugs and fuel filter? Have you called or emailed JL about it?

the engine was done in december

plugs will be getting checked this weekend. it does it if i ease into it and if i jump on it, but i havent jumped into it cause of the spuddering starts at a low level of boost. like i'll be at a light and it will turn green and ill try to go and im getting passed by kia sophias cause the truck is spuddering and jumping around and wont speed up at all and its acting like it is about to backfire.

I had a similar problem about a few ago and I couldn't get into full boost at all and the truck would miss and sputter. Turned to be a bad plug....changed them and the problem hasn't returned. Hopefully that may be a problem with yours, you may have a really rich tune and have a fouled out plug...

Change the plugs and fuel filter and let us know if that makes a difference.

i just went through the same thing on my truck. I dropped in new plugs and it made no difference, it turned out to be a coil. so I would bet its a coil since mine was acting almost identical to what you posted.

gary, dont really think this is your problem. But when i was driving to work the day my egr vacuum line melted i got the same symptoms. The truck spuddered, idled like crap. Just an idea and could be something to check out. Do you show vacuum at idle?

how exactly can i check my coil packs?

just unplug one at a time and see if the truck idles any differently... then whatever one it doesnt act up while being unplugged could be the one thats going bad right???
