Lightbulb Intercooler Pump toasted ...

62K and I don't know how long it hasn't been running. I wonder
if that could contribute to my eating spark plugs in #5 cyclinder?

Why doesn't a pump not running throw a SES light? Surely there
is something (IAT2 TEMP) that would let us know.

So if you have some mileage on the beast, best check to see that
the pump is running. I know that's why my last few outings have
had less than stellar results.

Cliff

PS... I found the pump for $91.00 on the Net.

BOSCH PART NUMBER 0 392 022 002

VW PART NUMBER 034965561C

A1 Part Number 58589 (I think!!!)

The coolant wasn't churning in the I/C reservoir. Then I hot wired
it from the battery to verify ... after removing it, it was LOCKED up tight.

The pump impeller turned freely, it was the DC motor that was toasted.

Hey guys... the easy way to know the pump locked up is that it runs like a dog after you've been on the road for more than 20 minutes.

The easy fix until you get a pump/motor in is to hit the motor with a plastic hammer a few times. Mine locked up twice on me and I have been putting off buying the pump... First time someone told me to hit it and sure nuff... it worked. Second time all I had to do was shut the motor off and restart.

Been like this for 4 months now. I know.. I better buy a replacement cause one day it'll lock up for good.

Well, I couldn't turn mine with a 6" Channel-Lock ... So I don't think
pounding is a good solution. < grin > For $91 I am gonna keep a
spare in the "road race" parts bin ...

There's a timer that keeps it from running for the first ~20 sec after you start the truck. It also won't run if IAT2 is below ~60*.

Well, apparently VW PART NUMBER 034965561C
yields a BOSCH 0 392 020 054 (At least that is what the invoice says!)

This is about half the size of ours, but might work in a pinch.

The FORD part is F8YH 8501 AA in case you were wondering ...

I found the BOSCH part number under a strategically placed piece of tape.

grrrrrr....... I might have to BUY the ford one at 392 !!!!

Some of my racing buddies suggested using a 12 Volt BILGE PUMP ... Might try that too
