complete lightning deivetrain swap into expedition. questions.

I am looking to swap a complete lightning drivetrain into my 00 2wd Expedition. I have searched on the forums and found a little info, but i am just wondering if anyone has any experience with this, and more info on it. Thanks

i believe you will need to swap in the wire harness along with the processor.

I've considered putting my complete motor, trans, computer & harness in my wife 03 EB. A 2000 should be a little easier as the computer, harness and chassis is very similar to the L up to 2002.

What engine is in the Expe right now? I think I may have some tips. I know what I did wasnt the same but Im sure I know what can stay engine wise for the swap.

I really couldn't picture it being all that hard. If you are doing it on a truck that already has a 5.4L/4R100 combo. I would use the trans from the Expy(beef it up of course with steel planet and such). Not sure how the transfer case would like. I personally would run it til' it broke. Hmm......sounds like it could be a fun project. Makes me want to look into doing it. Sell the Avalanche and get an Expy...........

anybody know if the 4R70W and the 4R100 would be a direct swap out? (lines, connections, etc.? driveshaft length?)

Yea, it has the 5.4 in it right now so in theory it seems like it should be a pretty straight forward swap. The only thing that concerns me is the wiring, but i guess the easiest way would probably be to just switch to Lightning harnesses. Does anyone know of any good sources to get a motor, trans, etc. from? Thanks again

You dont have to. Im using the wiring harness and computer I might add from my 97 gt. Im positive engine wise it is a very easy swap.

Yes this is a great swap and has been done by many, me included. If you get an blower/intake assembly off of ebay you will have most of what you will need. Then contact Mike Dunn at Madenterprise.com for the other items. The 4r70w can be swapped out for the 4r100 but it is a little pain and now that they have the 4r70w monster box there is no need. Hell i had my 4r70W rebuild with some upgrades and have over 20K miles on it turning 38's with no problems. You can even use the N/A puter and get a tuner to account for the injectors MAF ext. I am running a SCT xcalibrator with Sal's tune. Putting well over 400/500 to the wheels!!!! I think of it as a lifted Harley!

check the supercharger forum there are several of us there that have done the swap!

You should be able to pull your motor, put different rods and pistons in it, and then do what was mentioned by the other members, might save you some money.
