Since they don't make Lightnings any more . . .

I test drove the Chevy SSR.

2006 model with 395 hp and 400 ft-lbs torque.

And I must say that it's impressive.

Now, granted, it's not a "real truck" like the L, but the fact is that there is no more Lightning and this is about a close to a high performance truck that anyone makes these days .

If you're like me, and have a hankering for getting back into the high performance truck universe, it's worth a look.

It's pretty solid, handles very well, it's fast, it sounds great (no need to have to slap on a Bassani or Magnaflow to make it should like it should have . . . like we have all done with the Lightning), and there is a lot to be said to pressing a button and having the hardtop roof fold up and the next thing you know, you're driving a convertible . . .

Did I mention it's fast?

Unfortunately, it's a Chevy . . . and so, I pause . . .

still, it was a lot of fun

If you're like me, and L-less at the moment,I suggest you give it a look, and even if you still have your L, it's worth checking out just to see what all is out there.

When the going gets tough, and the tough gets going, a true Ford Truck enthusiast don't go test driving what the competition offers,a "FORD Truck" is second to none!!!

"about" how much will the adrenaline cost?

who thinks it will come with the 21" wheels they are advertising in the specs section?

The Ford website gallery shows no door handles......

I like the pics and may buy one once I can get a low milage used one....

Edmunds list the curb weight at 4701# or something:

http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/chev.....8.Chevrolet*

The older versions were heavier, around 4800# if I remember right.

That aside, 4701 is HEAVY AS HELL!!!

What did they make it out of???

The curb weight is listed as 4701.

Add to that fuel, driver, Warranty Exclusion Manual, tool bag, emergency breakdown flares and the assumption that an SSR owner will have a girlfriend of at least 400 pounds.

Total rolling weight 3 Tons.

I used to work for a guy that has a SSR and he had problems with the hard top leaking, he also was not happy with the power he said he liked it when he first got it but it just did not feel strong after he had it for a while.
He ended up trading it in on a new corvette.
