What in the heck is making this noise...I tried...

...changing the pads and rotors but noise is still there.

Turns out the noise happens after the truck warms up for about 5 minutes and when I hit 5 mph. Does not matter if it's in reverse or going fwd. It's really really loud. I thought maybe it was a lose heat shield but i check them and they seem fine. Sounds like it's coming from right under the cab. I just had the transmission pan dropped, new filter installed and then flushed/refilled. Does this sound like a transmission problem? Noise did not start until about 1 week after I had tranny serviced. Shop said everything looked good

BTW...finished the Hawk HPS pads and Rotorpros rotors. They are sweet! Stops great and looks awsome. Repainted my calipers when I finished the install, had a heck of a time getting one of the rear rotors off but finally did after pounding like crazy.

Please help!!!

Jim

Sounds like a loud metal vibration. When I come to a full stop most of the time it stops...does not make a noise when I'm accelerating or @ highway speeds.

Check to make sure the diagonal bed support rods under the truck near the rear wheels are tight. One of mine is loose right now and it makes a really loud metal vibrating noise at low speeds.

I'd try taking a rubber mallet and tapping everyhting on the exhaust system and check for rattles... and then suspension components.

A guy showed me that at my local exhaust shop when my muffler was making noise. I swore it was the cat (camaro only had one) but the flowmaster muffler must have had a baffle come loose.

I had an annoyin sound like that on my 97 f150. Turned out to be that the weld for the muffler hanger had broken loose and my exhaust was vibrating driving me crazy

the metal brake dust sheild might be rubbing something, especially since you just changed your brakes, you may have bent it

since the noise only happens from 5 mph, use the parking brake to stop (don't use the regular brakes). Since the parking brake system uses drum brakes, you can tell if it is coming from your brakes or tranny. If it still does the noise with the parking brake, you know it's not the brakes.

Good luck in your quest.

Definitely check exhaust system. One end of the muffler on my '99 was intermittently vibrating on the tip of a bolt under the cab. It would only happen at slow speeds, and sometimes when entering or exiting driveways.

OK...update...it does it when I'm in neutral and shift into Drive. Sometimes does it when I'm in park and shift to Drive also. You know when you feel the truck move fwd when the tranny engages....that's when it vibrates...also everytime @ 5mph too.

i had a similar problem on my ram about a month after i installed it. one of the exhaust clamps from the factory came loose i guess from installing the new system and rattled like crazy, i was under the truck for over an hour hitting every heat shield to see if it was loose. hope u find it.

Noise happens if I have my foot on the brake and I shift from N to D or P to D. Happens if I coast to 5MPH or Brake to 5MPH. This noise was happening before I put the brakes on but about 2 weeks after I got the tranny serviced. I got under there and pounded the cats with a rubber mallet and could not reproduce the noise. Damn!!! It's so freakin loud it's embarrasing @ stop lights. I can't figure this one out.
