Intake gasket porting question?

Was wondering if anyone has used aftermarket intake gaskets or filed down some of the black plastic from the inside ports on the gasket. My ports on my heads which are stage II cnc ported are bigger than the gasket. The gasket actually resticts flow.

We used the stock gasket but shaved to fit our port job. Even then it was just a little bigger than the gasket.

My injector is about 1/32" away from the intake port.

Peace,

Suavy

Thanx Suavy, I wish there was someway to make them so theyre equally sized. Is there another material we could use to customize something. Its got to make a differance.Maybe even something thicker to raise the runners.

Not to my knowledge, however I would think twice cuse any un mettered air getting in could be trouble! I think the hard plastic sets the gap and the rubber gasket part seals it.

Peace,

Suavy

hmmm..??

Hey that's a good question, I wonder if they make a larger gasket, if they are cnc ported they had to get the measurements from somewhere. When I have my stuff ported I always give my porter a gasket, and say, make it that size. If I were you I would contact the place where you got the heads from, or the cnc porting done, they'll know. If not give good old Summit Racing a call and see if they have an oversized gasket. I'm about to have mine hand-ported and I'd like to know as well.

I just don't know about making the ports THAT big. Your likely to run into problems with the intake manifold cracking as well as gaskets trying to blow out. Also, everything is under preassure, and your only limited by your smallest point which is going to be farther down into the head. Big can be good, but I don't know if it's going to be better overall.

I ported the intake manifold myself so the ports were matched to the gasket.I called around and couldnt find a bigger gasket. Im goinng to just file down the inside of the gasket a little and rematch the intake. The heads are JLP stage IIs. They are a real nice piece. What i would have liked is if someone could fab up a riser setup maybe with a gasket on each side. I read an article somewhere that increased runner lenght will increase the tourqe. Id be willing to dyno back to back with and without if i can find someone to make something like that.
