Question CAT back system

Which CAT back system will give me some horsepower gains? (02 Lightining stock with an K&N filter) Someone told me just to change out the muffler because the exhaust pipes will not make a difference in power. What is the real deal?
TIA
Otis

I have twin 5x8's with a X pipe, but I also have long tube headers.

Magnaflow makes a real nice two in-two out cat back with a built in X pipe. Bolts right in

That's what I have. Got it from JDM and it's been perfect but no HP gains from a catback or very little. The L's exhaust system is very efficient stock.

Get the Magnaflow exhaust... stay away from the JDM Silver Bullet as it is nothing but trouble.

I’ve come to the same conclusion, as lightninrod stated (The L's exhaust system is very efficient stock.) So I'll buy a system for my expedtion instead
Thanks everyone for your help

YES, GOOD answer, the stock cat-back system is really efficient, I totally inspected mine internally after took it off, and swapped it with a flowmaster American Thunder setup. it is not at all restrictive, 2 and 1/2" in, out, and all the way through even. No horsepower gain from aftermarket setups, maybe from an x-pipe, but still minimal. The biggest gain is those crappy stock manifolds at the head!! I definitely noticed a difference with my JBA headers. If you can get a high-flow cat setup or an off-road setup you will gain a LOT more too.
