95 mm Mass Air MAC/Motoblue Problems with a 99´Lightning plz help

Hello !

This Thread is for a friend of me !

He owns a 99 Lightning and got his 95mm Mass Air System MAC / Motoblue.
(Same like i have on my 04 Lightning).

Yesterday we installed the Kit to his Lightning and it was a horrible result. The Lightning sounds like a 40 years old ship and driving wasn´t possible. I think she gets to much air and runs to lean.
Is there a way to go on a 99 Lightning with this CAI Mass Air Kit ?
Could this be the Mass Air Sensor which makes the trouble ?

What do you think ?

Edit:

We have installed the stock OEM Pipe from my 04 Lightning to make it fit his 99´
Thank you !

Many greetings,

André

Andre`, if I read your post correct you added a 95MM MAF set up to your buddies 99L set up? If so the change from a 80MM MAF set up to a 95MM MAF set up will need to be tune adjusted. That is if you changed the MAF meeter also?

Let us know,

Peace,

Suavy

Hello Suavy,

I think you mean the sensor ?
We have only changed the Filter and the 80mm to a 95mm sensor-pipe.

I think changine the pipe makes a diffrence also. The computer in my opinion uses the size of the pipe Vs. the air flowing through it to calculate air flow?

If you have near by dyno or a data logger maybe you can check this out?

Peace,

Suavy

Thank you Suavy,

do you think that the 99 Lightning Sensor couldn´t calculate the flow from the 95mm Mass Air Pipe ?
He tried different tunes with his Predator.
A guy i know from here says that it could be the sensor. the sensor is for smaller pipes only he says....

Now i´ll go to bed...... read your answer tomorrow...

Thank you !!

1:40 am here

Greetings,

André

Andre, a MAF works by calculating the ratio of air going through it's sample tube (in the electronics itself) and the main body. When you changed the main body from an 80mm to a 95mm, you completely changed the MAF x-fer curve. The truck needs to be tuned for that change, which will probably not be too easy since you are using the electronics from an 80mm in a 95mm housing.

odds are that you are running lean right now! I put a 90mm maf on my '99 for 1 day (so I could drive to the tuner) and I was screamed at by the tuner becuase I was running so lean! (not Sal)

Sal, thank you very much for your help.

I would like to give my friend your adress to talk to you because of the Custom tune.
Would this be ok ?

Many greetings,

André
