This is really strange...and driving me nuts...!!!

I recently developed a strange "rattling/vibration" noise that sounds like it's coming from under the truck. My brakes are almost shot and I've got new Hawks/Pads that are scheduled to arrive on Saturday. However, this sounds like it's coming from underneath somewhere but I could be wrong... It seems like when I hit about 5 MPH the vibration "metal on metal" starts...It's fairly loud. When I stop...noise stops. Happens in reverse but more so going fwd. I tried running in 1st gear, OD OFF/ON...does not matter either way. I did have the trans serviced @ a local transmission shop. They do only transmissions and are a pretty high tech outfit. The only thing they did was drop the pan, install a filter and flush the whole system then add new fluid. That was a few weeks ago, truck is a 2000 and has 48K on the odom. Any ideas what the heck this is? Sounds like metal on metal vibration. I have Magnaflow single muffler(not cat back). I also plan on replacing shocks next week after I do the brakes. I think the shocks are shot also.

Please help!!!

Jim

Check the heat shield on your exhaust. One of the bolts on mine rusted through and I would get this kind of rattling sound. It was an easy fix, just replaced the crappy fastner on the frame with an SS nut and bolt, tightened everything up and no more rattle.

I'll check the cats when I do the brakes this weekend. I thinnk it's something else though by the sound of it...I hope it's not the tranny. The shop said that everything looked good when I picked it up...had 12 more miles on it than when I dropped it off though... :-(

I hope it's something simple...I wanna go bassani anyway when I get enough extra $$
