Anyone opened and painted the inside of the tails?
Anyone opened and painted the inside of the tails?
I hate my all red taillights, but the 01+ are okay...
Anyone ever open up the 01+ ones and paint the inside?
My friend from back home did that to some cheap-o aftermarket altezzzas for his 02 celica gts and it cam out nice and clean looking.

YES, it was a very easy mod!
Pre heat oven to 275.. put tail light face up, for about 10mins.. be sure to check on it every few minutes as oven's do vary.
This will loosen the factory glue, holding the lens on.. gently pry pieces apart with a plastic scraper, or anything that will not mar the warm plastic!
Once you have both pieces in front of you, take 600-800 grit sand paper, and scuff the surface to be painted. Wash out and let dry completely.
Next tape off the red and clear reflector lens, and go and grab the Ford or other color you wish to spray...... Spray away!
You can now clear coat, or leave just a base coat.
Next fire up the oven again (only if paint is COMPLETELY dry!!), and try and get boths halfs in there, to warm the glue back up (same temps as above).
Quickly remove both halfs from the oven, and slap 'em together! If you did it correctly, you wont need any extra silicon/glue.. but it never hurts to dab a little from behind.
DONE!
