New Lightning engine from Ford
New Lightning engine from Ford
Have you guys heard about this? Here is a post from another board.
"Ford is punching out a new LongBlock that can replace the past L's ShortBlock and be installed under warranty by Ford. (Suspect the New L's Base Block)
This New LongBlock has just been made available this month.
Ford has okay'd it's use for replacement when a L's engine has popped.
Ford is swamped with repeated L's blowing the same two rods(7 & 8) that it's costing even more money to consistantly replace the same L's that repeatedly return....the answer is: A NEW LONGBLOCK GIVEN BY FORD.
The L must be, or look, completely stock and the Dealerships Forman(sp), & SVT Manager must approve that the L was never tainted with after market parts. It takes almost each Managers Approval from The Service Department.
This isn't BS folks because it was ordered today.
I will find out the spec on this LongBlock...if it's cheesy in nature, we'll just provide the need forged parts from Johnny Lightning."
Im kinda surprised to hear this. Im pretty sure it's true though. This guy really isn't a bull*****er.

Do not buy one. When I blew up my first motor(it was modded) I bought a ford drop in long block($4000). I put the new motor in and did not mod it. It blew after 6000 miles 7 months later. They said when you buy one of these blocks it has a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. That is a bunch of BS. Since there was a sign of the computer being chipped and I had a aftermarket exhaust. They denied my claim. This new engine was never chipped. I stated that to them. They knew that when I bought the engine from them. If I knew that it would not be covered because the truck was chipped before, I would of gotten a new computer. I now hate ford. I will never buy another Ford again. I now have a built block. I just wanted to let everyone know that a warranty from ford doesn't mean ****. They will always find a way not to warranty something.

possibly on bad gas i could see that happening but then there would be signs of detonation so dunno!

There were no signs of detonation. They never said anything about the computer. I taked to many other dealers and they said they just replace the engine if it is with in a year. That is why Beach Ford in Virginia Beach Va sucks A$$.
yeah
I know of 2 stock trucks that blew in this area alone.
Cold weather and ****ty gas = kaboom.
When my old man blew up his 00, it was 7 and 8. It was not completely stock.
One of the ford techs said he's seen a couple blown motors on these trucks. It has been thought that one cause is spinning tires suddenly hooking up and sending a shock through the drive train to the motor. I don't know exactly what that would do...........I recall him saying something to that affect.
Just reflecting back......has anyone seen a Lightning motor puke the two front sets of rods???
It's always the back ones ........

Would this be a reason to void a warranty? Also, how do I tell if it had a chip put in it? I also don't give it full juice from a dead stop, only rolling atleast 20mph+. Should I be worried about blowing the motor or tranny if I'm not mashing the gas from a dead stop? Another thing, how do I tell if my 03 got the updated heads for the spark plug problem?
