non starter

parked up for about 20 minutes on friday and then truck wouldn't start again, got it taken home on a recovery truck and it still wont go.
there is nothing when you turn the key, only thing that happens is all the gauges go out, theres no clicks or other sounds although you can here the fuel pump prime so i guess anti theft is ok.
ive had the starter off and it doesn't seem stuck,it turn freely and the solenoid moves ok but to be honest i dont think the starter is even getting any power.
somewhere between the ignition and the starter the power would seem to be disappearing.
as a side point if you put on the headlights and try to start they do not dim which i think backs up my thought that the starter isn't even getting any power.
help needed please........
mike.

Had the same problem with mine....had nothing. Changed the starter, solenoid, battery. Come to find out....the power cable running from the battery to the starter/solenoid was bad. Replaced it, worked like new.

ok im getting a bit fed up now.
ive had a auto electrician have a look but as usual the truck started ok while he was there.
it does seem more likely to not start once its got hot,if i leave it for a couple of hours then usually it turns over ok.
its stock by the way,no chips or anything and its only the starter that doesn't turn, you can here the fuel pump prime.
im scratching my hair out.
any help.
mike.

I had started a thread about three weeks ago with the same problems got no replies but one( imagine that ). Went through everything as you did and it ended up with a bad power cable just like AFCHADs. Works like a charm now.

There is whats called a fusable link in the cable it maybe bad with only a few strands still making contact. When it heats up, as you know when you shut down the temp's get hotter under the hood and opens the link. When it cools back down the contact is made again. Just a thought, as to why it's so hard to find the problem. Artie
