NMRA / FFW Rules?

NMRA / FFW Rules?

At what point is a Lightning not considered a Lightning any more?
I know JLP & Charlie are doing great things with their set up and will rule the roost with what they are using.

I was thinking if a person was to have a whole tube frame made and dropped a Lightning body on it could it still be raced as a lightning?

Does anyone know what the rules are for making a tube frame?

Is there a special license for the 9-second bracket?
Maybe some of the big dawgs will chime in?

Thank's everyone,

Peace,

Suavy

It doesn't matter if it is a Lightning anyway.......the classes are for all Ford trucks.

It would probably depend on which class it's running in - FFW Tough Truck class rules state that OEM frame is required, front to back and that tube frames are prohibited.

you need to be tested and licensed to run under 10.0

i think in ffw you cant run under a 10.0 also?

The link posted above explains it real clear. As for running under a 10, if you have all the required NHRA safety equipment....it is perfectly alright.

Realisticly though.....I think the new open comp class was created to give the, tube/backhalf/spring conversion, folks a place to race.

I personaly think that the NMRA & FFW Truck classes are both Flawed. The NMRA Truck & Lightning class can Only run as fast as 9.10 in Qualifing & the FFW Tough Truck class does NOT permit Back Halfed trucks ??
WTH is that all about??
Both classes are Bracket, NOT Heads Up so who cares how Fast you Go. In fact the Faster you Go the harder it is to be consistant! Some people I know say that the NMRA Truck class does NOT permit 8 Second or Faster Trucks because that would take some of the Mustang Classes Out of the Spot Light!
Many people also claim that the FFW Rules are made so that ALL of the JDM customers can WIN. lol Maybe so but who cares.
If you Run 9.99 or Faster you Need a NHRA License to Race.
If you take a Real Ford Lightning & build a Full 25.1D Tube chassis & make it a full Race Truck it is Still a Lightning. My good friend Jason Brown from Florida owned the World's Fastest Lightning that ran 7.88 @ 179 mph & it was a 25.1C Full Tube Chassis Turbo Truck. Almost every Gen 1 Lightning Owner has heard about this truck & Know's that it is the World's Fastest so Why would you Gen 2 Guys be any different??

I think these classes were designed for street legal trucks. It is bad enough to have a 5000 lb 10 or 11 second hunk of iron trying to catch a 14 second truck before the finish line at 120+ mph, let alone a 7 or 8 second vehicle at 140+ mph. Kinda a safety issue. Just my 2 cents worth.

Decafe Ralph,

Thank you for the info, I was just wondering how that works. I have never driven a 10 sec let alone a 9 sec truck yet.

I would love to one day though! I have been talking to a group of guy's who have been kicking around the idea of building a set up like that. I just wanted feed back like you provided.

Ralph, on a personal note I have always sung your praises and have admired what you have acomplished.

Peace,

Suavy

absolutely man, there are some folks I will not even line up beside at test n tune after seeing their crazy azz going down the track sideways and taking out the timers, etc. i can't imagine running having 8 sec cars running me down. don't you love it when you line up beside something so loud you can't hear your own engine when you take off ?
