Any synthetic is safe. They all blow away petroleum oils in ability to protect the bearing surfaces, and ability to stay liquid in freezing weather.

BTW, I've been using 0-W30 in my Lightning and other vehicles for years. Why 0-W30? I believe that the thinner oil is a little better on gas mileage, I believe it protects as well as any other viscosity, and oil tends to thicken through use as some of the additives boils off.

I am sure you will get many opinions on this but I had a good discussion with an Amsoil tech a few years ago. He mentionned that their best oil for turbos and blowers ( due to the additive package) is their 10W30. Another nice benefit of this particular oil is that it has the lowest volatility rating of any oil in the insustry. (supported by independant testing) That means that with a fully functional PCV unit I have much less oil in the intake and the intercooler. I did my own test and the difference is quite noticeable.

The 10W30 synthetic still flows much better cold than any 5W-20 or 30 dino oils. I would not recommend this oil at temperatures below 50 degrees F. Yes 0W will be a little better on fuel but I really think it is too light, especially when you really push our engines.

TB

PS I don't sell and don't promote Amsoil. These are just my observations.

I've been using Mobil Synthetic 0-30 in the winter for the past couple of years - then switch to 5-30 for the summer.

I've been using Motorcraft 5w-20 w/ 820s filter since day 1 (which was 3 years ago). I picked up a couple of cases of Mobil1 5w-20 a few months ago since Autozone had it in stock. I usually change my oil every 6 months regardless of the mileage (only 13K miles on the L), and I changed it the other day using the new Mobil1 w/ 820s filter.
