Crankshaft Observations/Questions
Crankshaft Observations/Questions
I stripped two motors in the last week, a 2002 F150 5.4 and a Navigator 4V 5.4.
I now have three crankshafts on the bench, the two from the above engines and a brand new Modmax Forged unit. I offer the following observations.
All three cranks have the identical forged parting line characteristics.
All three have very similar markings, as follows:
2002 F-150, WF 2612 F75EA 17E
1999 Navi. WF 1510 F75EAE
Modmax, WF 1580 F75EAE 15
(note, the WF is actually a symbol, joined together).
On the assumption that The Modmax is a forged crank then it seems that my stock F-150 engine came with a forged crank (unusual?). The Navi's are supposed to have a forged crank, I believe.
I also have another in the Harley engine that is in my truck.
Can anybody offer any further insight into this? Are the different numbers all indicative of forged pieces?
Needless to say I will have a few cranks for sale in the very near future.
