WRX help, what does it run?

This guy in my area has a WRX and wants to run me. He has a WRX (not an STi). He brought it to the local Subaru dealership to get it fixed and my buddy works there. He knows imports and skoped it out and says it has the following mods:

A really bad knock
AEM intake
Hyper Flow Intercooler (its a top mount)
Nitrous Express kit (he thinks its 100 shot)
cat-back exhaust
blow-off valve

It might have bigger injectors, and a short shifter. It has the stock turbo, so I am assuming he has a boost controller of some sort if he wants to run a L.

The funny part is, he doesn't know my buddy works there and was telling me it has a Greddy stage 3 turbo and puts down 550hp to the wheels. My buddy said he thinks it might have about 400 to the wheels on nitrous. So my question to you guys is how much power do you think it makes and what does it run in the quarter. I know there are a few guys on here who own STi's and I need some opinions before I agree to run it. What mods would I need to beat him? Would the chip, pulley, filter combo be enough?

Chances are he will take you IF he can drive.

You will need tire for the race. I've raced a few wrxs. Many are not tuned properly. The ones that are can be heartattacks!
Good luck let us know how it turns out.
Sounds like he is full of @#$% though and you should pull his cord.

well, 400 hp in a 3,200 car with AWD vs. 400 hp (if you're lucky) in 4,800 lb chip filter pulley truck. i am not too good at math but i think that equals a Lightning beat down. sorry. i wouldn't bet your pink slip on it. take it to the track and find out. good luck!

The big question is, does he have a Cobb Access Port or some other tuner. They're needed to run the CAI and the BOV properly (without tuning around these parts, you run the car dangerously lean,) they also raises the boost without a visible boost controller, and you don't leave them in the car, they're flashers.

If he's got the upgraded intercooler, and you said he mentioned that he's stage 3 right?, (which is Cobb terminology for upgraded intercooler, upgraded turbo, and injectors) he's good for a mid to low 12 without the spray.

Let us know how it goes.

If he is on the stock block with those upgrades, I can understand the knock..

He'll take you off the line definitely,

But I think you'll catch him in the long run.

Hmmmmm

I've run a couple STI's at the truck, infact i ran one last week.

Here's his slip

60 - 2.023
330- 5.812
1/8- 8.951
mph-78.86
1000- 11.604
1/4- 13.987
mph 92.28

Don't know if this is good or bad but i've had a couple dip into the 13.2's on me, but i new lost to one.

I don't know what a regular WRX with a 100 shot compares to these numbers but if you are bone stock it would probably get a good race.

The WRX's are always in the 1.95-2.1 60 ranges when i raced them.

On stock f1's.......if i pulled those 60's , it was a miracle.

Good luck, let us know.

if he's on the stock tranny you should be able to take him until higher speeds... generally those with standard wrx's don't launch properly (thus ending up with 2.0-2.2 60' times) I believe they're capable of 1.7s if abused in the right way. The only real way to find out is to actually race him, so get on it!

I've got a friend with an upgraded turbo (uh... don't know what kind), but he got beat by a basically stock SRT4 last week. He has the automatic though. He's got a couple of things done to the engine, but not much, and nothing too good considering he don't know half of a sack of **** about cars (which explains why he got an auto). I would say you should be able to take him as long as he doesn't spray. My friends 95 3000gt (not a VR4, straight 5 speed V6) help with him up to around 90 and started to pull on him. So, even with an upgraded turbo, he couldn't do too much. Can't say I know how they would run with a 100 shot, but try it. Just don't drop a hot bit of cash on that.

Tell us how it goes.
