Wrecked L , Mr. Potaote Head died
Wrecked L , Mr. Potatoe Head died
Came around a right hand corner got about 40 ft. and out of nowhere a 4 door Jeep SUV maakes a left right out in front of me. I had about 10 feet to stop, just enough time to put my foot on the brake, but not enough time to slow down much. I saw the guys face pass me by and then the next thing I know I T-boned the back end of his car, parts explode off my truck, airbags deploy, gunpowder smell everywhere and I am just stuned. My door will only open part way and I strugled to get out of the truck. I look around and there are truck parts all over the road, my horn is stuck ON, and I a have a huge coolant leak. The front end of my truck is toast. The whole cab has been pushed back towards the bed. Big time damage.
Good news no one was hurt. Bad news I do not know if the truck will be totaled,(2000 with 78,000 miles) or fixed. I was hoping someone in So Cal could recommend a good repair facility in the event that it is cost effective to repair? Right now I have the truck at Sunset Ford. Does anyone know if their body shop is any good? Thanks for your help, and be careful out there.

I don't know about that. It hurt me just reading about it.
REDHOTL3,
I hope you end up with a new L to play with when this is all over and done.
Been there, done that. Only the woman was turning right and I must have been the invisible 4800 lb big truck and gave her something to think about.
She was pregnant and wearing no seatbelt. She made a huge, circular smash pattern on the passenger side windshield of her car as she ended up in the passenger seat. Some people should not be allowed to traffic our roads. Look at your driver side front frame bumber mount area; if the main frame tube in front is accordianed back from the impact, it may be totaled by your insurance company. That's what my dealer told me when they inspected my truck. You'll get over it; we all do, in the end.

sorry to hear that you wrecked your L but at least you are okay and no one was hurt.
The bad news is that your L might classified as total. Not sure what your insurance is going to classified it but usually if the insurance has to pay more than 25% of what the truck is worth, they usually just settle it and total the vehicle.

Thanks guys I appreciate your comments. Looks like I am going to have to call the insurance company and see how they want to work this. I am still looking for a body shop recommendation. Has anyone in my area had some quality work done lately?? Thanks again.

The prices for these (somewhat poorly built) trucks are falling like rocks and I can't fathom what in the world would cause the prices to reverse anytime soon. SVT milked the market to its fullest and unless an asteroid with 40,000,000,000 barrels of crude comes crashing to Earth you might want to consider investing your monies in something less speculative.
That being said, the 03/04's still draw in newer owners who haven't the slightest clue what the above paragraph is about yet.
A smart forum lurker (no, not the inbred forum member) should have noticed that even the most respected tuners have posted that all of the L's once slightly modded all produce the same basic RWHP.
Take your mechanical experience and start subtracting Lightning years and conditioning for the best buy possible and turn a blind eye to the posters that are looking for euphoric support from the same year owners, all because they simply don't know any better than repetitively giving bad self-serving advice.
