Need a tuners opinion
Need a tuners opinion
I would like to get an "educated" guess at this:
I bought my L with a diablo chip in it re-tuned by fordchip.com
After contacting everyone who was involved with the chip I still can not get a straight answer. I do have some facts though.
I know the following information is not "as accurate and I should dyno and it's not a wide-band O2 and all the other remarks I heard before" BUT I have done this test several several times and the same results have come about.
For comparison reasons I will use numbers to show my testing..
This test was done with a G-tech (here goes more flames), My Air/Fuel Lunar series autometer gauge, and at 3,000 RPM in 3rd gear with the torque converter locked and with the same engine temperature, on the same road, no hills, no heavy winds, and everything else you can think of to get a controlled test. I accelerated in the same manner being careful of the RPM, throttle speed, etc.
Not to mention I have done the same test months ago with the same results. B.T.W. my G-tech reads lower than most so is near worthless to me except for comparison testing like this.
Test1:
Toggle Switch UP= .24-.25 Gs, 3o'clock position on the air/fuel meter (half rich)
Test2:
Toggle Switch Middle=.22-.23 Gs, 4'oclock position on the a/f meter (more than half rich mostly)
Test3:
Toggle Switch Down=.20-.21 Gs, 1:30 position on the a/f meter (almost beginning of rich)
I did this test several times in the same sequence observing all conditions and have done it before.
What my impressions are:
UP= Street. slightly more power. Probably due to being more Lean and more Timing.
Middle= Stock. The most richest but not the slowest.
Down= Strip. By far the leanest and seperates itself on the meter alot even by air/fuel and power means. What strikes me as strange is you would think the leaner the faster.. Perhaps too lean or too much timing.
Now the thing is, I was told by the burner and the prev. owner, that the 3 settings are:
(Stock),
(Street=4# tune, 93 octane w/ torque red. shifting),
(Strip=6# tune, 100 octane w/o torque red. shifting)
Right now I am running 93 octane and the 4# pulley.
Any ideas which switch position matches which tune??
Thanks a bunch.
I WILL dyno it soon, but trying to get an idea before I run at the track.

My Diablo flip chip is:
up-race program
middle-street program
down-stock
I have the light with the chip so the up light's up red and the other two program's light up green.
Hope this help's.

OK well I have the "old style" Diablo chip without the LEDs
Furthermore the fordchip.com person told me middle was OFF and what I believe to be stock.
UP also for me is "towards the notch"
Middle is also noted as the OFF position on the switch PCB.
If I unplug the switch it would be the same as the OFF position which would also indicate "stock"
Thanks for your reply.. does anyone out there have the pre-LED diablo chip?

OK let me rephrase what I am asking.
let's say I am a new customer to you.
I am Mike, who has a 4# pulley and exhaust on his Lightning. I also have a 6# pulley that I can run.
I want about 400hp/500tq at the wheels with my 6# pulley and race gas but still be on the conservative side of things. Also I want no torque reduction shifts. I would like that to be my strip tune.
Now for my street tune, burn me a 4# pulley tune that I can run on 91-93 octane and leave the torque reduction shifts on. Make This my street tune. (making about 370hp to the wheels)
Now After you burned me these settings..
On an A/F meter.. what would be the results in comparison with stock/street/strip.
== The above is what the original owner asked for with his tunes == If you tuned for the above.. how would you accomplish this.

However.. I have been told that the stock position should be the most richest position. Please correct me if I am wrong here.
Using what you told me stock (down away from slot) is the most dangerous.
No matter what you say it is I will never run that setting because I dont want to run rich. I may do it with 100 octane and a dyno just to see if it makes more power or not.

This is exactly how my Diablo (from Jerry Woblowski) works. You can flip from the upper to the middle at any time with the engine running (at idle). However, to go to the stock (down) position the engine must be started in that position or you will actually be in the "middle" tune even though the toggle swith is down.
