Anyone Running A Msd Digital Rpm Window Switch???????

Just curious if anyone running nitrous is using a MSD digital RPM window switch, PART # 8969? I just ordered mine and it should be here on WEDNESDAY. I was wondering where you hook it up to on our trucks to get the TACH signal? Any problems with the unit?

HI!... I was told it could be hooked up using a negative feed off one of the coil packs?

I recently put one on my truck with the Zex wet kit. I am planning on trying it out tonight, I will keep you posted. If it works, I will give instructions on how I hooked it up.

Not directly related Neal, but my Dynojet Wideband commander has the ability to pick up and log the engine RPM. I used the negative lead of the #8 coil pack to do this, but the WBC software has specific settings for RPM sensitivity - I guess to tell if this is a one cylinder or one of "X" multiple cylinders. I would think that there would have to be some sort of selector switch or set of DIP switches on the window switch to configure for direct coupling a multiple coil pack scenario.

Any install or spec sheets online for MSD?

HI!... Thanks guys! I'll be picking it up tommorrow but won't be installing it till SAT/SUN. MSD has online instruction for it but I don't see any diagrams for the COP set-up, just 3, CARB, MSD IGNITION BOX, and direct ECU hook up. Mabey I have to use the last set-up??? Here's a link to the PDF :

Neal,

Check out page one of the PDF file under "Programming the RPM". There is a chart that starts with "1-Cylinder". That's what you're looking for. That configuration with do you for COP installs.

HI!... Ya I know that but I was trying to figure out which wire diagram "I" need to use on our trucks set-ups. I believe it is FIGURE #5. I will have to look up on my FORD MANUAL on CD, TO SEE WHICH WIRE FROM THE pcm IS THE tach SIGNAL. Tap into that and everything else is basic.

I check my manual, but I don't have the schematics section (volume 3). I know that on the WBC connection, each coil pack has one wire that is the same color/tracer on each of the eight and one that is different on each. The common coler wire is the constant (+) signal and the variable colored one is the (-) trigger signal (equivalent to a tach signal, but for each COP).

BTW - I too think that Fig. 5 seems the closest, but I think it's going to wind up more like Fig. 4, but on any one of the eight coil pack with the switch configured for 1-cylinder. Might be worth a call to MSD tomorrow.

Hope you find it as I think I have now run dry on being able to assist further.

Good Luck,
Herb

HI!... Well JMC and I spent about 4 hours wiring up all of my NX kit, solonoids, bottle heater, remote valve opener, MSD digital window switch. Now apparently FORD in "99" to current changed from putting a tach signal wire in the PCM harness. So we could'nt grap it there. WILL THE (-) wire from a single coil pack be the proper way to get a tach signal? I've also been told I might need a MSD tach adapter? Where does it hook up? Any help on this would be great. Tommorrow I'm getting 1 of my 3 NX bottles filledand going to finish one switch and the purge line. I want to use the kit but don't want to unless I get this dam MSD DIGITAL WINDOW SWITCH hooked up and working right.

Can any of you TUNERS shed some insight on this?????????

HI!... Well JMC and I figured it out today. We tapped into the #1 cylinder's coil pack, negative wire and everything worked great. Now all I have to do is get mu bottles filled up this weekend and I'm ready to rock. I'm anxious to try out my nitrous tune and of coarse a 75H.P shot! LOL!
