My command is listed to be moved from Northern VA to Alabama.

I know its not final, and no disrespect to anyone from AL, but I would hang myself before moving there. I hear its beautiful country, but that's just not for me.

Anyways, I'm a DOD civilian, so I don't "have" to go, but I love my job.

 

I guess you are referring to Redstone Arsenal in Hunstville?

I heard the area once called 'the Greenwich Village of the South'.

 

Redstone is home to a bunch of NASA people besides everyone else doing military things.
I worked there from 1985 to 1992. Same weather as VA.
I lived south of the river in Morgan Co.
It was about 1955 when I went down there.
It must be about 1995 by now. grin .
It IS a bit different.

 

I've live all over the world and in some petty bad places, including main land China and marshall space flight center was the pits. A lot of people hated Korea, and AL makes it look like paradise.

Never would I go back for any amount of money.

 

Yea..here in CT I got it too..
But I will get my 20 yr letter the same time the unit goes away.

We are all sad, our units have been our home. But its all part of the new restructure plan.
My career will not end there, I am scheduled for my final NCOES for the Army next month. USASMA ....then look for a new home.

Just glad that I'm in Europe for the time being (although I hear that will be getting phased out as well)... A lot of people I know got hit pretty hard by this year's BRAC.
