High flow shot?

I noticed a rattling noise earlier this week and narrowed it down to happening when the truck was idling in gear. Today when I got home from a 200 mile road trip the rattle was ever-present but much worse.

I jacked the truck up and had my wife start it. I was directly underneath the passenger side convertor and it was rat, rat, rat ratttling so that's the culprit.

These are Dynatech long tubes and no pre-cats and they were purchased from Razor's Edge. Here's a link to the ones for the Lightning. My invoice has the same part#, however. The site doesn't have a link to the HD ones for some reason.

Question is.....is it common for a high flow cat to malfunction?.......They were installed in July, '03.

Also, is it ok to drive until I can get it fixed?

I'll get in touch with REM and ask about a warranty. ha ha.

Thanks...

The cats and headers for a Lightning are the same as the HD's
You will be fine driving around with it the way it is. I had the same thing happen to my Magnaflow cats. Eventually it stoped making noises, but by then the cat was just a empty shell.

You won't hurt anything driving around like that, it is just annoying.

Thanks, Don. I'll get it replaced eventually but it still kinda sucks that a system that's less than two years old is malfunctioning like this.

I bought them USED from rem in July of last year. I think they told me they were on a customers truck for a few months before I bought them. So they shouldn't be more than a year old.

If you don't mind, what's your engine setup? I'm trying to gauge whether temps have anything to do with this. I typically see 1240 - 1260 on my EGT when cruising and 800 - 1100 around town. The truck is putting about 500/625 to the wheels with my current pulley/tune setup.

Thanks..

Pre-Headers I had ~420RWHP. I don't have a EGT, so I don't have temp readings. I only have a 4# and a Apten. I have only been to the track 3-4 times since I put the headers on. I don't think I have ran any race gas at all since I put the headers on. I will look at the truck some time this week to see if it is auctually the cat that is rattling.

Thanks. Hopefully it's just a heat shield or something simple like that.....

Oh...it's got a built short block, KB and all of the other good stuff. Previous owner did all the work. It put down 525/634 on one of Sal's mild race tunes and some good gas. It's toned down for daily driving now but I have two other uppers and two race programs if I want to turn up the boost and get a little more aggressive.
