IC = intercooler

Lower Intake is the intake manifold, you know the thing that sits right on top of the engine block before the air hits the valves.

No, it's like a radiator underneath your supercharger. Remove's heat.

I have a 99 with an updated IC, and 90 MAF that didn't make 1 hp more than with the old IC and 80mm MAF.

According to Sal from PSP the lower intake made ~5 hp but even then it's debatable.

If you poke around and look for dyno runs you'll see that chipped 99 - 00 made about 25 more RWHP to about 355 RWHP. That falls right in the stock area for > 00.

Now go poke around for chipped >00 dyno runs that are posted... few and far between but I saw one guys from HALO that made 360 RWHP, that only 5 more than stock and not 25 more as in the earlier years.

IMO to answer your question, it's (>00) all in the lower intake (5 hp) and the CUX.

If you want to even poke around some more you'll find a lot more dyno info 99 - 03 where guys are all basically running the same mods, 4lbs, chipped, CAI, and everyone is making almost the same RWHP, if fact you'll see more differences between colors than years.

I think alot of guys think that they're making more HP with the later years, but I think it has more to do with the rear gearing.

Let the flames begain.

Simply, the 99-00 have cux1 computer program
the 01 and up have a more aggressive cux2 computer program. The newer trucks run leaner than 99-00.
99-00 ran very very rich.

rear end gears have zilch to do with HP.

yes the cux2 was alot more aggressive than the cux1. couple subtle differences between the years but nothing extravigant.

oh also forgot they added the aluminum driveshaft. 99 and 00 had the heavy steel ones.

There are two things that make the power increase. The lower intake manifold, and the calibration.

The lower intake was revised in 01, to have a few inches of intake runner before the intake port. The 99-00 style was just a big open chamber right to the heads. This is were most of the torque increase comes from. Better intake velocity at lower rpms.

The calibration was also revised in 01. The 99-00s stock would drive into the mid to low 10s in A/F. The 01-ups are in the high 11s stock. This is where the HP increase comes from.

Nothing else did it. Not the gears, the 90mm, the I/C, or anything else. They've all been "added" to people's 99-00s with little to no hp increase.

It's the lower intake and the tune.

I would like to know more about the intake. I think a lot of people are under the impression that when they went in for the "intercooler upgrade/repair" that they recieved the 01+ lower intake. If I'm not mistaken, they only recieved the new style intercooler, NOT the lower intake, where the power came from. Anyone have any info?

Isn't this what I basically said?

Zorprime: rear end gears have zilch to do with HP.
That's nice to know, but it doesn't address what I said?
